In Celebration of
Norine Crompton
July 20, 1924 -
April 21, 2020
Ida Norine Crompton passed away on April 21, 2020 due to Alzheimer’s. Norine was born in Mount Forest on July 20, 1924, the youngest child of Robinson and Ida Gardiner. She was predeceased by her siblings Glen, Margaret, and Bob – who was a special mentor to her all his life. Norine was the last surviving member of her generation of the offspring of the six brothers of the Gardiner clan. She was a graduate of the University of Toronto School of Nursing.
Norine was the cherished wife of the late Dr. Charles Crompton, and beloved mother of Ann (Paul ex), Ruth (Jochem), Scott (Lorraine ex) and Judith (Holden). She was the adored Nana to Joanna King, Lauren and Natalie Klostermann, Samantha, Charles and Sarah Crompton and Jenna and Ellen Chadwick. Also, great grandmother to Charles and Mackenzie Turner and soon to arrive Baby Crompton. Her family was always her priority and she taught all her children the importance of family as a source of love, respect, comfort, and fun.
The family is eternally grateful to the loving caregivers who supported the length and quality of our mother’s life: Tess Deysolong, Gina Cayao, Shiarry Baduria, and Maria Cristina Fernandez who cared for both our parents; and more recently Letty Dasmarinas and the dedicated staff of West Park Long Term Care, especially Dorothy Campbell.
Norine was loved by all who knew her for her kindness, loyalty, and generosity. She had a razor-sharp wit and did not suffer fools gladly; one expressively raised eyebrow let you know your error. Literature, theatre, and good conversation were her passions. She instilled this love in her children and grandchildren. Her daughters continue to make an annual pilgrimage to Stratford which their mother began with them in the sixties. Despite the effects of Alzheimer’s, Norine remained to the end the gracious and wonderful lady we will always remember.
