In Celebration of

Hessie Rousseau (Formerly Joynt, nee Philpott)

December 2, 1933 -  June 3, 2022

Mom always laughed at her sense of direction, but she found her way to heaven with her loving family by her side and a tear in her eye, on June 3rd, 2022. Born December 2nd, 1933 in Belfast and raised in Bangor, Northern Ireland, she forever cherished her Irish heart and soul and set sail from Ireland in 1952 with her family David and Hestor Philpott, joining her brother David and, sister Libby, making Canada her new home. She remained forever close to her dear brother David Philpott (98) and family, with her regular Sunday phone calls of laughter, song, and healthy brotherly advice. She had the ability to create a loving home wherever she was and loved being a mom more than anything in the world. We grew up with the scent of our lilac tree breezing through our home in Rosemere and as children we loved getting off the school bus, smelling her fresh baked Kentucky Ginger Bread and racing home. She will always be remembered as a loving mother to Karen (Steve) Joynt-Bowie, Brian (Susan) Joynt, Nina (David) Rousseau-Sklivas and Nancy (Barry) Rousseau-Dosogne and grandmother to Devon, Cameron, Ben, Christina, Ryan, Alex, Jeff, Angie, Jackie and Jake. Former spouse to Michael Joynt (Father of Karen and Brian) who was forever a devoted part of our lives until his passing on March 20, 2013 and Pierre Rousseau (Father to Nina and Nancy) who remains a caring and positive influence today. She remained lifetime friends with her childhood friend Harriette Ambrose and her family, who we most recently visited on our trip with mom back to Ireland in 2014.

While in Montreal she worked many years at the Montreal General Hospital as an OR administrator and moved to Mississauga in 2005. Ever a romantic, she appreciated the beauty in all things, including flowers, Nora Roberts’ books, perfume, jewelry and, sharing wine with family and friends. She loved her music like Nana Mouskouri, Harry Belafonte or Doris Day’s Que Sera Sera and enjoyed her crafts, most often inspired by and including Karen, particularly flower arranging and ceramics. She also loved her old movies and rarely missed her classic soap opera Coronation Street. She is fondly remembered for her wonderful sense of humour, laughing at herself more than anything.

We’d like to share, and wish upon you, Mom’s favourite Irish Blessing, that she often quoted:“May the road rise to meet you, May the wind be always at your back, May the sun shine warm upon your face, the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of his hand”.

Many thanks to Chartwell Heritage Glen retirement residence and Silverthorn Care Community in Mississauga for their compassion and generosity in caring for Hessie these past few years.

The family will be hosting friends and family in a memorial gathering to celebrate her life and legacy at Chartwell Heritage Glen at 6515 Glen Erin Drive, Mississauga, Sunday, June 12, 2022, from 12 noon – 3 pm.

She will be missed and that is a sign of the lives she loved and touched. If you'd like, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or flowers may be sent to Chartwell Heritage Glen c/o Hessie Rousseau.
