In Celebration of

Herbert Herrmann Johannes Luedke

May 24, 1934 -  December 23, 2024

With profound sadness that words cannot express, we announce the passing of Herbert Luedke, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, a man of quiet strength and unwavering devotion who joined the love of his life, his wife Erika, in eternal peace on December 23, 2024. He was 90 years old.

Herbert was born in Schoneberg - Berlin, Germany, the eldest of three children, Berndt (deceased) and Renata to Erich Alfred Luedke and Lisbeth Martha Luedke (nee Franz).

Herbert met Erika in elementary school and they were married in Berlin in June 1957. They immigrated to Toronto, Canada shortly thereafter not for riches, but to have a family. He was an electromechanic and Erika was a homemaker. Herbert was very proud to be a Canadian and a true testament to love, loyalty and humility. Even after Erika's passing due to breast cancer, his heart remained hers, and his life was a tribute to the love they shared and the memories they created together.

Herbert/Dad/Opa lived a life rich in love, hard work and skill. His greatest joy was his family and he cherished every moment spent with them, whether gathered around the dinner table sharing stories or watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren grow. Gifted with his hands, Herbert had an innate ability to fix, build and create. From crafting keepsakes for his grandchildren to repairing anything that needed a skilled touch, his handiwork was a reflection of his care and dedication.

His love, gratitude, wisdom, kindness, integrity, gentleness and quiet generosity was given to his children, Caroline (Mike), Rick (Gwen), and his grandchildren, Kristina (Connor), Angela (Ryan), Mark, Paul (Ellen), Ally (Stephen), and Victoria. Being a great grandfather to Charlotte, Penelope, Sophie, Ingrid, Callum, Margaret and Freya gave him his greatest joy. He is survived by his sister Renata (Manfred) Schneider and brother-in-law Siggy (SIL Gudrun - deceased) and nephews Michael and Gordon Jaensch.

Herbert will live on through every member of his family and his extended family, Justene and Adam, Edison, Willow and Chloe, Lilibeth, June, Samantha, and Ma'an.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at Milton Hospital during his short battle with cancer.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Ignatius Loyola Church, 2300 Burnhamthorpe Road West, Mississauga on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow. There is no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in memory of Herbert would be welcomed at the Canadian Cancer Society, Milton District Hospital or St. Ignatius Loyola Church, Mississauga.

Caroline, Mike and all the Borsock and Luedke Families, we were very sorry to hear of your dear Dad’s death Caroline. Your Dad was such a lovely man. I had the privilege of meeting him many times over the years through his daughter Caroline whom I worked with at St. Ignatius Loyola Church for a number of years. You are all in our thoughts and prayers at this sad time. May his gentle soul rest in peace.
