In Celebration of

Helga Margarete Haberfellner

January 22, 1928 -  April 11, 2022

On April 11th, 2022 our wonderful Mum, Dr. Helga Margarete Haberfellner, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children who love her so very much. Her greatest quality was her compassion and it played an enormous role in the lives of her students, her patients, her friends and her family. Being a steadfast believer in the power of kindness she was living proof of its effectiveness. She delighted in small things and had a brilliant smile and sparkling eyes that danced with joy whenever she laid eyes on us, her children – Helga Jr. (Paul), Eric (Sheila), Edith (Joel) and John (Janina) and her 7 grandchildren, Rose, Robyn, Alexandra, Erika, Johanna, Ceceilia, and Matthew.
Inspired by her work at Women’s College Hospital Mum worked incredibly hard and fought staunchly for her principles. She was endlessly proud of her children, and grandchildren, and the truth is that our success was rooted in having such a remarkable Mum. She soothed and brought joy to every life she touched and was always encouraging and understanding. She loved us, animals, especially her dog La Vie, the cottage, and nature. The world was a better place because she was in it. We will miss her sorely and dearly, as will everyone who had the good fortune of knowing her.

Friends are invited to call at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W., at Windermere, east of the Jane Subway, on Thursday, April 21, 2022 from 2-3 p.m. followed by a celebration of Life Service in the Chapel at 3 p.m.

For those who wish, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

Dr Haberfellner was a much respected and committed member of the West End Group of physicians at Women’s College Hospital to which my Mother Dr Tetiana Rewa also belonged. I recall with pleasure my many encounters in the doctor’s room on the Saturdays when I accompanied my Mom. My condolences to your family.

I was a patient of Dr. Haberfellner for a number of years. She delivered two of my three children and was a truly wonderful Dr. I was so fortunate to have been a patient of hers.

Helga’s Mom was a remarkable woman. She inspired young doctors, like my friend Mimi, with a passion for kindness in the practice of medicine. That kindness and thoughtfulness for others shone through later in life. I will remember her sitting under the tree in front of la Barde, holding la Vie, and enjoying a meal with Helga and Paul. She acknowledged every kindness and exuded a remarkable zest for life. A truly inspiring woman.

I have been and am grateful for the support and mentorship she provided for me, and I have provided similar support for young trainees.
Many her memory be eternal.
