In Celebration of
Helen Evans
June 30, 1945 -
September 9, 2022
It is with great sadness that Helen’s children share of her passing on September, 9th 2022. Helen was predeceased by Ron Evans, her husband, and is survived by her children, Krista (Gareth Roberts) and Steven (Pari Christides). She was the devoted grandmother to Ethan and Lauren who will miss her dearly while she continues to live in all our hearts.
Helen had a rewarding career as a teacher for many decades, and after retirement, operated a tutoring business. She thoroughly enjoyed the challenge, interaction, and self gratification in seeing someone improve skills and increase their knowledge through the art of teaching. She was an advocate for kindness, helping others brought her joy and she did it often. Those that were blessed to have known Helen, will know her gentle, giving nature as well as her strength, her determination, and her ability to push for excellence in and out of the classroom.
Helen was widowed at the age of 48, and raised both Steven and Krista as a single parent. Even after such a tragic loss, she continued to support family and friends all around her. Helen played the role of both mother and father. Time spent with her children would include shopping weekends, theatre shows, and home décor with Krista and followed by evenings sitting in the garage with Steven while he worked on cars, welded, fixed motorcycles, and even participated in the testing of the railbike. She loved doing all of it and a tradition of travel for all three of them spanned many years, most recently to Las Vegas, LA, and San Francisco.
Helen enjoyed cooking, gardening, traveling, baking, sewing, reading, and her favourite past time which was spending time with family. Helen hosted all family holiday gatherings for as long as one can recall, had an open door for all to join with an engaging personality. Helen routinely had gatherings and outings with friends - book clubs, girl’s weekends away, dinner parties, and shows. She had an incredible group of friends, many of whose friendship are decades long.
Recent support for Helen was never in short supply, she was overwhelmed with the outreach, visitors, meals, and help. She has a passionate group of friends whose unwavering presence will never be forgotten. We are blessed that Helen was surrounded by love, in constant company, and had a beautiful family experience.
