In Celebration of

Helen Charlotte (nee Panes) Rowett

April 14, 1931 -  May 13, 2023

We are saddened to announce the passing of our mother Helen Rowett, in her 93rd year, at Mississauga on May 13, 2023.

She is survived by her devoted husband and soul mate of 68 remarkable years, and caregiver to the end, Glenn and cherished children Mark (Deborah) and Jill (Ken).

Loving and devoted Nana to Ryan (Sarah), Shannon (Warren), Rebecca (Justin), Ness, Tamara (Ashu), Megan (Craig) and Darcy. Helen will be remembered by her great-grandchildren Wyatt, Zoe, Elsie and Maxwell. She was predeceased by her parents Frank and Mary Panes, and was the last surviving member of her siblings, Bob, Bill and Jim.

Mom made lifelong friends with the Frieds, Voights and Rabjohns while attending the youth group of St Elizabeth’s Church in her teenage years. She was involved in leading Girl Guides and Brownies. She enjoyed various arts and crafts. Her apple pies were the best, made with homegrown fruit, and her cheesy potatoes at family gatherings were a must have item. She initiated her family’s love of curling and made many friends at the Dixie Curling Club.

She worked as an administrative assistant for Humber College until retirement, after being a stay at home mother until her children were in high school. Early in retirement, she travelled around the world with Glenn, making many friends while visiting Costa Rica, China, Australia, Alaska and Europe. Above all, Helen found the most joy in her life with Glenn and her family.

We would like to thank Dr. Zheng and the nurses and PSW’s who provided excellent home care in her last days.

Friends may call at the Turner & Porter "Peel" Chapel, 2180 Hurontario St., (Hwy. 10, N. of QEW) on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Friday, May 19, 2023 at 11 a.m.

Interment Glen Oaks Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, we request donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Oh, Helen - I couldn’t have asked for a lovelier mother-in-law! So warm and generous with her affections and accepting of my daughter from my first marriage, who she drew to her heart as one of her own. I can’t say how much that meant to me. I will cherish all the memories of family gatherings at holidays and other times over the years, where she was a loving grandmother and a warm hostess. Rest in Peace dear lady.

Rest in peace dear Helen. I have fond memories of your trips to Ottawa to visit your grandchildren here - as does Tyson of his honorary Nana. Sincere condolences to you Glenn, Jill and family and Mark and family - Helen was such a strong and loving wife, mom and Nana. Although I don't actually remember it, I'm told I was a flower girl at Helen and Glenn's wedding. There were many other family gatherings I do remember, though. Many Christmas dinners with our ever growing families and Panes Family picnics have created great memories. Helen was always at the centre of the fun.
My Dad, Bob, (RIP 2012) and Helen were twins and we always enjoyed hearing their stories, starting with their remarkable survival as preemies in 1931!
