In Celebration of

Helen Audrey Hudson (née Dixon)

April 26, 1929 -  September 15, 2024

Helen Hudson, the beloved daughter of Albert Edward Dixon and Evelyn Rose Crapper, was born on April 26, 1929, in Toronto. She was a devoted sister to Don and Kathleen, for whom she took on the role of a mother figure, demonstrating her nurturing and caring nature from a young age.

Reading was her greatest passion. She was an avid reader, often immersing herself in three or more books a week. Her love for literature spanned various genres, from classic novels to contemporary fiction. Her reading is a testament to her inquisitive mind and a source of her happiness.

For over 60 years, Helen was also deeply involved in her community, particularly through her long-standing commitment to All Saints Kingsway in Etobicoke. She dedicated her time and talents to the Women's Auxiliary, Chancel Guild, Sunday School, and many other events, touching many lives with her kindness and devotion.

Helen's dedication extended beyond her passion for church and reading. She was a vigorous supporter of the Canadian Diabetes Association, where she played a significant role as the co-chair of the annual Etobicoke campaign for several years. Her commitment to this cause was driven by a deep-seated desire to improve the lives of those affected by diabetes, a cause close to home. Helen's organizational skills and compassionate nature shone through in her efforts, making a substantial impact on the community and raising much-needed awareness and funds for the CDA.

Helen had a rich tapestry of hobbies and interests that reflected her energetic personality and enthusiasm for life. In addition to her church activities, Helen was renowned as an organizer of bus tour adventures. She had a knack for planning and coordinating trips, ensuring that her friends and acquaintances enjoyed memorable and well-organized outings. These tours demonstrated her skills and love for bringing people together.

Helen is predeceased by her loving husband, Edward George Hudson. Married over 60 years together, they built a life filled with love and decades of memories at their home on Jackson Ave. Helen is the loving mother of Mark Edward Warren, Bonnie Kathleen Ellen, and their spouses, Nathalie and Tom. She was also a proud grandmother to Ashley, Brittany, Marc-Alexandre, Nicolas, and Grant.

Her life was a beautiful blend of intellectual curiosity, community interest, and attentiveness to family and friends. All who knew her will remember and cherish her legacy of love, enthusiasm, generosity and communal service. Hers was an unwavering spirit that will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to be part of her life.

She has gone to heaven and is resting in peace.

In lieu of flowers the family is suggesting that donations be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association in Helen’s memory.

Visitation will be on Friday, November 29th, 10-11 a.m. at Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St W, Toronto, ON M6S 1P4. Service will begin in the Chapel at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow. The interment will be at Prospect Cemetery.

Dear Hudson Family

I'm very sorry to hear about Helen's passing. Helen was a wonderful friend to everyone she met. I met her while I worked at All Saints Kingsway. She and her good friend Betty were a great pair! Along with a few other lovely ladies they ran the Senior Ladies Group. They were very inclusive and invited everyone to join in on their fun. When my mother-in-law became a widow, they brought her right into the group, as well as the bus trips and exercise class. They socialized outside of ASK as well, with movies, plays, lunches, cottage trips etc. Thank you to Helen for being such a great friend!
