In Celebration of

Heidi Bertignoll

October 5, 1969 -  July 12, 2022

Born on October 5, 1969, to Anne Bertignoll (nee Odörfer) and the late Wilhelm (Bill) Bertignoll. Survived by her husband, Andrew Emery, and their children Hayden, Olivia and Violet, her sister Stephanie (Harold), mother and father-in law Adéline and Ron Emery, God mother Maria (Berndt), sisters-in-law Mariette Mérey (Robert Emery) and Danièle Emery, nieces and nephews Paige, Gabrielle, Fiona, Spencer and Alexandre, aunt Jutta and uncle Mike Klein, cousins Pierre (Greg) and Eric (Lisa) and family in Germany, Austria and South Africa. She passed away peacefully on July 12, 2022, at home surrounded by her family and close friend Jen.

Heidi was a glorious soul, a pure heart put on this Earth to lighten every day, and she did. That she was thought of as more daughter than neighbour, more soul-sister than friend, is no surprise. She was like a second mom to many of our kids’ friends. She made everyone feel special, and seen, and heard, because that’s how she approached life. Heidi was Super Mom extraordinaire to her kids. She was so proud of each of them, supporting their passions and aspirations unconditionally, and loved them more than life itself.

Her contagious laugh, her love of colour and fashion, her natural talents and love of baking, sewing, and gardening: these were her signatures and she rocked them with style. Heidi crafted us a beautiful life as surely one of the coolest moms to ever grace Parkdale / Roncy. That we had her for the time we did is a wonderful gift.

Special thanks to the care teams at St. Joseph’s, Toronto Western, Princess Margaret, Dorothy Ley Hospice Community Physicians, Home and Community Care Support Services and S.R.T. MedStaff. Your care and compassion for Heidi and our family at every step is beyond words. Also to Dr. Rachel Wortzman, Dr. Rania Lingas, Dr. Victoria Cheung, Dr. Andrea Bezjak and teams, and to her favourite nurse Kalika Lloyd who would come at any hour. And lastly to Dr. Elaine McWhirter, a family friend and constant for her advice and support throughout this past year.

There will be a visitation from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at Turner & Porter Funeral Home, 2357 Bloor St. West, Toronto. Masks are requested to be worn. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society in support of lung cancer research, or to a charity of your choice.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, please reach out to our family for more details.

It's difficult to put into words the impact that Heidi has had on each of us at 175 Dowling. From Karl and Josie, who first met Heidi when Annie and Emma were young girls, to when Annie moved back as an adult and had the privilege to once again rekindle her friendship with Heidi in a different capacity.

We feel incredibly blessed to have had the opportunity to see her wondeful smile and hear her beautiful laugh so often. Heidi was one of a kind - an irreplaceable spirit who's positivity and kindness was felt, always.

We will miss Heidi very, very much and want to thank her for being a part of our lives.

Heidi - we love you.
