In Celebration of

Harold Laurie Graham

August 3, 1930 -  February 24, 2021

Passed away peacefully at Credit Valley Hospital, Mississauga on Wednesday, February 24, 2021, after a brief illness. Laurie Graham in his 91st year, loving husband of the late Helen (née Pietrzyk). Proud father of Michael (Alice) and Robert. Devoted grandfather of Kathleen, Jonathan and Thomas. He will be sadly missed by his sister Donna Joslin, brother Gord (Dianne), long-term neighbour and golfing partner Jim Winter and his wife Linda, and his friends Duff and Marinette Shaw at VIVA Mississauga Retirement Community.

Laurie was born in Oakville in 1930 to parents Harold and Winifred (née Makin). In 1958, he married the love of his life, Helen, and together they raised their family in Etobicoke ON. Laurie had a successful career in the financial services industry with Mutual Life of Canada and MCAP before taking “early” retirement from his position as VP at Caldwell Securities at age 85. He was an active member of the Islington Golf Club and the Cambridge Club, and ran marathons in Toronto, Ottawa, New York City, Boston, Northern and Eastern Canada. At age 70, he earned his black belt in karate and continued keeping a healthy and active lifestyle, including participating in the Annual Toronto Santa Claus Parade. Always impeccably dressed with a fondness for bow ties, Laurie was a true gentleman and was admired and respected by all who knew him. Laurie is now reunited with Helen after 26 years.

A private service for immediate family was held at Turner and Porter Peel Chapel on March 2, 2021. Interment Park Lawn Cemetery. A celebration of Laurie’s life will be held late spring/early summer.

Memorial donations to the Scott Mission or the Salvation Army would be appreciated by the family.

Dad, I’ve received so many emails from your friends telling me wonderful stories about their times with you. I didn’t realize how many lives you touched and the impact you made. You had a Wonderful Life. Alice, Kathleen, Jonathan, Thomas and I are grateful to have been a part of it. Love Michael.

I never had the pleasure of meeting Laurie in person but I did get to know him for the last 18 years and he became a special part of my life. I was his Insurance Broker and we developed more than a business relationship. We talked often and I got to know him very well. He was such a gentle, kind soul and I truly regret never meeting him in person. I truly feel like I lost one of my best friends but I will always have our conversations to cherish and they will never be forgotten. God Bless your soul Laurie. My condolences and prayers to the family.
