The Nielsen and Worrall families were very close for more than half a century. Hans and I were boys together. His parents Georg and Kirsten were very kind to me and my sisters. In later life, his sister Birgitte would marry my father James. There have been many shared experiences and good memories. Speaking on behalf of the Worralls - Anna Jane, Brenda, Ingrid, Jennifer, Lindsay, Kathryn, Aileen and myself - I say to to Hans and all the Nielsens, "We will miss you - rest in peace."
Hans made me feel welcome when I first joined the Enforcement Division. We soon became friends. He was a man of intellect and dignity, but also had a fine sense of humour and a warm heart.
The last time I saw Hans was when I attended his retirement party, many years ago.
I just heard the news of his recent passing, a few minutes ago.
My sincere condolences to the family of Hans Nielsen. He is gone too soon.
Hans was a fine man and I will always remember him.
I just found out Hans passed and am very sad. I first met Hans at CRA when he changed offices, from Mississauga to Toronto. We worked on cases together and shared many interesting experiences, helping each other and also developing a lasting friendship, leading to us keeping in touch over the years after he retired.
Hans was very principled and steadfast and trustworthy, a man of integrity and character. I often teased him for his lack of techology while he teased me for too much. Last I spoke with him in the Spring he admitted he finally got a cell phone!
I will miss our lengthy Christmas catch up telephone sessions and his loud laughs. He was truly a great person and will be greatly missed by me and many.
Condolences to his family and friends.
