In Celebration of

Gwen Brison

February 21, 1928 -  March 10, 2024

Three weeks after happily celebrating her 96th birthday with her family, Gwen Brison (nee Doble) slipped away to join her beloved husband Jack Brison (1922-2008). They are remembered with love and gratitude by their family: Rob (Sue Moffatt), Dana (David Johnston), John (Melanie); grandchildren Mary and Grace Brison, Alex and Nicholas (Laura Jabalee) Johnston, Mike Brison and Meg Brison (Scott Symes); and great grandchildren Carl and Evan Symes. Gwen delighted in every generation touching all with her comforting smile and infectious laugh!

Gwen was raised in a practical farm family in Uxbridge. She and Jack met at a United Church Young Peoples’ group in Windsor. They were smitten with each other and married within 6 months. After beginning their family in Windsor, they moved to Etobicoke in 1961. While Jack developed a civil engineering firm, Gwen devoted herself to raising their three children. Gwen was smart, spunky, adventurous, and determined. She became an excellent bridge player, curler, and a bold down-hill skier. She never met a dog she didn’t like. She and Jack were active members of Kiwanis and their local Humber Valley United Church. Together they built a cottage in Parry Sound where they hosted many memorable times with friends and family. After Jack died, Gwen moved to Walden Circle Retirement Community in Mississauga where she enjoyed nine caring years with many forays to family events.

During her life, Gwen’s family and friends were blessed by the gifts of her hands and her heart, as we are now by our memories of her.

Dear Dana and family;
I am so sorry for your loss. Your obit word “spunky” perfectly summed up your mom. I think of her and your dad every time I sit in one of the comfy brown chairs they so generously donated for Steed Hall. And I had my last chat with Gwen as she was scraping dirt off the back stairs into the church. “ didn’t want to bother .Zoran when I can do it myself”. Spunky indeed!

Sorry to read of Gwen’s passing - my thoughts are with all of you. Your description of her was so accurate as she was spunky and adventurous … and thoughtful.

I was in awe of her independence and confidence, and hoped as a senior I would be as willing to hop in a car as she did, driving from Montreal through Algonquin Park to the cottage alone. She was a force!

Both your mom and dad were so easy to admire.

My sincerest condolences to the entire Brison family, and my prayers are with you all. I met Gwen in 1971 after her son, John, became my best friend in grade 8, after our family moved from Windsor to Toronto. I was best man for John, and his beautiful wife Melanie at their wedding. And, of course, babysitter to their wonderful children; Mary and Grace.

So Gewn was a very familiar face and all the Brisons should be extremely proud for how she lived her life and shared her joy. To know she is now together again with her beloved Jack is truly a blessing.

I recall that Gwen was a big supporter of our ladies spring fundraiser, Bids 'N Bites and I once told her she won the prize for promoting it so well. I think that was the year she she had corralled 8 or 9 ( tables (of four) to come out and play bridge!

Gwen and Jack were solid Humber Valley members for many many years. Both of these fantastic people were good friends of my parents and I remember many good conversations with both of them. Sorry for your loss but memories of your parents will live on with others.
