It is with profound sadness that our family is sharing the passing of Maureen Chase on February 10, 2021 with her daughter Deborah Walton at her side at Trillium Hospital, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.
Maureen Chase was born in Lead Vale, Christ Church, Barbados and immigrated to Montreal, Canada on February 2, 1967, then transitioned to Toronto. Loving mother of Deborah (Geoffrey Jr.) Walton and Ronald Simeron. Profoundly proud grandmother of Xavier “Sweetboy” Walton and Ashley Simeron-Tial. Sister of Donville Chase (predeceased) and Sister-in-law to Maxine Chase. Joyful Aunt to Denise and Andrea Chase. Predeceased by her parents Gardiner Austin Legall and Ural Ernesta Chase. Cousin of Darnley, Reynold and Peter Barnett, Joan Clarke, Sheila Cole, Celestine in Montreal and Coraleen Lawrence (predeceased).
Maureen worked as a Liaison Officer for 36 years for the Ministry of Health in Toronto, Ontario, until her retirement in 2004. Maureen travelled across the province by car, train or plane to introduce new Ministry physician billing procedures, reporting methods and requirements to Primary Care Physicians. Maureen worked tirelessly to support her family in Toronto, Barbados, New York and England. She also maintained several part-time jobs over the years at Home Depot, Walmart and the Shopping Channel as a Customer Service Representative. She was well respected wherever she worked, and her colleagues spoke of her fondly.
Maureen loved cooking and baking up a storm in the kitchen and sharing all that she prepared with family and friends. She ensured to pass on her love of cooking to her daughter Deborah and grandson, Xavier. You would be guaranteed to have a black cake, bottle of sorrel and conkies set aside in a Georgie bundle when you connected with her during Christmas. She had a green thumb and that was evidenced by the bounty of tropical plants all over her home, especially those in her kitchen.
She was an extraordinary person and touched the soul of many that she met. Her love will be forever cherished in our hearts. We know she will be watching over us.
