In Celebration of

Gordon Ralph Elliot

April 13, 1944 -  September 30, 2018

In his home, on September 30th 2018, after a brief but fierce battle with cancer, Gordon passed away surrounded by loved ones and his extensive collections of Canadian art and Moorcroft pottery, while listening to his beloved jazz recordings. He was a good friend and a gracious gentleman to the end. He was generous to a fault, kind and had a dry wit. He savoured life, relished many of life’s finer things and loved to share them.

Born in Toronto on April 13, 1944, Gordon studied in Canada and England, completing his doctorate in History and was proud to be a UTS old boy, class of ’62. Gordon worked for Wood Gundy in Toronto and Montreal and then found his niche at the Bank of Nova Scotia. There he rose to the position of Vice President Equity Investments, Group Treasury. He had been enjoying his retirement since 2009.

Gordon was predeceased by his parents Ralph and Eloise, also of Toronto. Among many others who are missing him, Gordon leaves behind a group of bereaved lifelong friends. He was much loved and is sorely missed by Mark and Jamie Gerecke and their five daughters: Jenn (husband Pete Shouldice, and children Hannah, Amy and Gregory), Elizabeth (husband Tom Law, and children Tyler and Asha), Gwyneth, Megan (husband Nicolas Rémond, and daughter Louise), and Alana (husband Ian Giesbrecht, and children Theo and Atticus). As well, he was much loved and is sorely missed by Geoffrey and Valerie French and their children Katherine (husband Rob Moulton, and children Hannah and Chloe), and Kevin (wife Kim, and children Taylor and Regan). Gordon was a very important uncle and great-uncle to these families and a played a significant part in their lives.

There will be a celebration of Gordon’s Life at the Turner & Porter “Butler Chapel”, 4933 Dundas Street W., Etobicoke (between Islington & Kipling Aves.), on Wednesday October 10th, 2018 at 11 a.m. All who wish to attend are welcome. In his memory, donations can be made to the Ken Page Memorial Trust, Massey College or University of Toronto Schools Class of ’62 Bursary Fund. On-line condolences may be made using this website.
