In Celebration of

Gloria Wylie

November 11, 1941 -  February 4, 2020

Gloria Jean Candice Johnson Wylie passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 4, 2020, at Mount Sinai hospital in Toronto, after having been diagnosed with aggressive lymphoma in November.

Gloria was born in Sioux Lookout, Ontario to Elmer and Margaret (Kizuik) Johnson. Gloria is survived by her daughter Krista Wylie (husband Emree Siaroff and children Maddie and Bennett Siaroff); her son Jay Wylie (wife Diana Fleming and son August Wylie). She is also survived by her brother Karl Johnson (wife Marjorie and daughters Shawnessy Johnson and Rachelle Boone).

Krista and Jay fondly remember their family summers at the cottage in Kincardine, vacations with Ben & Doreen Parkinson, hosting an open house each Christmas Eve (a tradition that Krista continues), and playing scrabble together. Gloria took pride in her children and grandchildren and loved her family dearly. She enjoyed traveling and saw many parts of the world. Her favourite trip was to Ireland. Her most adventurous trip was to Tunisia. Gloria visited San Francisco many times in the years after Jay moved there. She liked to stay right downtown on Union Square during the week so that she could shop and people watch all day!

Gloria did not want a funeral or memorial service. We appreciate you keeping her in your memory.

Donations in Gloria’s honour are welcome to the Sick Kids Foundation (https://www.sickkidsfoundation.com/).

Gloria was like a second Mom to me growing up. I appreciated her open nature and willingness to chat about what was on our minds. I will always think of her and cherish the decorations on my Christmas tree from when she surprised me with a 12 days of Christmas secret Christmas gift - a secret she continued for 10 years! Love to you Gloria!

Although I only met Gloria less than a handful of times in the past few years, each time I did, I felt her kind nature and strong character shine. I can assume she was an amazing mother. Her daughter Krista and son Jay are testaments to this. May her legacy continue through them and her three grandchildren Bennett, Maddie and August. Gloria, may you rest in peace.
