In Celebration of

Gerald Douglas Francis White

It is with sadness we announce the passing of Gerry on August 3rd, 2023. He is survived by Maureen, his loving wife of 58 years. Beloved father of Douglas (Jeanene), Stephen (Lori) and cherished grandfather of Andrea, Mathew, Colin, Jamie, Jaclyn.

Born in Guildford, England in 1936, Gerry received his early education at Salesian College in Farnborough. After the war took the life of his father Douglas Richard, he emigrated to Canada with his mother Helen and late sister Hazel, settling in Mimico. His stepfather George became an important part of his life a decade later.

Gerry graduated from St. Michael’s College in 1956 before embarking on his 33-year career at Bell Canada. Among his accomplishments was being a member of the team that installed the first automated teller machines across the country in the early 1980s. He later served as a consultant for Ontario Hydro.

He will be sadly missed by Hazel’s husband John, sisters Anita (Art), Margaret (predeceased Harry), brother Anthony and in-laws Fran (Malcolm), Monica (Adrian), Betty, Peter (Theresa), Anne (Keith), John, and Carmel (Jim) as well as his large extended family across Canada and in England, Austria, Belgium and Australia.

Gerry loved sharing a good laugh and enjoyed watching all forms of comedy especially British shows like Fawlty Towers. He loved dancing and the theatre, be it drama or musicals, in small town or larger venues like Koerner Hall. Gerry and Maureen were also TSO subscribers for thirty years.

This kind, generous, and caring man who loved to travel the world with Maureen now starts his final journey.

So sorry for your loss, Maureen and family. Gerry was such a fine person. My parents -Agnes and Harry Lynch - enjoyed your visits and the enthusiastic games of euchre and pinochle. And I was thrilled when included in a game. May the love of your family and wonderful memories embrace you now, and in the days ahead.

Photo is a lovely memory of Gerald. We remember the laughs, the 'occasional' glass taken together, the times enjoyed in your/his company out your way, out our way and here & there in the world (Ireland, Arkansas, Kauai, among likely others come to mind). From your account, Maureen, Gerald was at peace as he set out on his final journey. Reqiuescat in pace. We will have a quiet moment together in September.
