In Celebration of

Georgia (Djurdja) Erdeljac

May 3, 1942 -  August 8, 2023

Georgia (Djurdja) Erdeljac was born May 3rd 1942. She passed peacefully on August 8th 2023 at Humber River hospital at the age of 81 in the presence of her loving nieces and nephews—Allison, Jason, Andrea, James and Ashley.

Georgia was a beloved aunt, sister and friend. Born in Novi Sad to Elena (Jelica) and Michael (Mihajlo) Erdeljac, she came to Canada when she was 20 years old, with her mother, two sisters and one brother. Georgia and her family worked very hard to achieve a comfortable life in their new country, and they all happily settled in Toronto, Ontario.

Georgia did not have children, but took care of her siblings, Melissa (Milica), John (Jovica) and Lulu (Ljubica), as if they were her own. Her nurturing and motherly qualities eventually extended to her nieces and nephews, and great nephews, who all felt she was more of a second mother to them than an aunt.

Georgia loved to read, cook, and spend time with her family and friends—usually around the dinner table, hosting, laughing and telling great stories, while everyone enjoyed her delicious food! She brought a tremendous amount of warmth and light to everything she did. Georgia possessed a real strength of character, and it was no surprise that her family and friends could always turn to her in times of need and assurance., and her relentless positivity in every situation made her a force to be reckoned with!

Georgia’s passing marks a very sad moment in time for her close family and friends who will miss her tremendously. However, we are comforted knowing that she will be reunited with her father, mother, two sisters and one brother in heaven. Georgia’s faith was unwavering in her devotion to God, and always kept it close to her heart. Heaven has gained a wonderful new angel!

Visitation will take place at Turner & Porter, 2357 Bloor Street West, Toronto on Tuesday August 22nd from 10am-11am, followed by a short service from 11-11:30am. Donations in memory of Georgia Erdeljac may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

Dear Ashley ,
My heart has been very heavy for you. I am so sorry that you lost your Aunt, your second Mother. I wish, Ashley, that I had the right words but please know you are close in my thoughts and prayers during this very, difficult time. I know that your Aunt Georgia was such a beautiful person from all the stories you shared with me. Today and always, hold her dear memories to your heart.
My heartfelt sympathies to you and all of your family.
Love, Annmarie

Georgie was one of the most remarkable women I have ever had the privilege of knowing. An older sister to our now departed dear Luby, together we spent countless hours at the kitchen table as she helped us navigate our teenage years. I will always remember her beautiful smile, her kindness, generosity and unfailing positive spirit. She will be missed.
