With much sadness we announce the death of our Dad, Doug Townsend, who passed away suddenly in his 85th year at his home in Toronto on May 2, 2025.
He was the dearly loved father of John (Janice), Greg (Caz) and Kelly (Craig dec.). He will be remembered warm-heartedly by his grandchildren Zoe, Emma, Brianna, Emily, Audrey, Evan, Roman, Freddy and Claudia. Also remembered fondly by Lois and Kay.
Doug lived a life full of adventure and accomplishments but family, friends, cottage time and world travel were his greatest pleasures. He spent 35 years as a history and geography teacher at Central Technical School and 30 years running a successful property management company. He achieved so much when he put his mind to it and willingly took on many challenges. This was exemplified in his ability to gain the business knowledge to run his own company and in his handiness to fix just about anything.
Later in life, duplicate bridge became an important part of his life, and he was proud to have achieved his Bronze Life Master.
Curiosity was a key characteristic of Doug and that was never more evident than in his travel to places that piqued his interest. Being a history teacher made him an enjoyable travel companion because he always had insight which enlightened the experience for his travel companions. Throughout his travels he continued to learn and enjoyed seeing history from new and different perspectives.
Doug was very loyal, was always willing to lend a hand to his family and friends and had a great sense of humour. We will miss him deeply.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor Street West, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on July 30, 2025.
