In Celebration of

George Lazenkas

June 18, 1933 -  July 25, 2024

Passed away peacefully after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at 91 years of age.

Beloved husband of Helen (nee Sideris) for 63 years, predeceased by his parents, Pantelis and Elpeniki of Florina, Greece. Cherished father to Peter (Evelyn) and Bobby (Anna-Marie). Adored Dedo to Alexandra and Zachary. Dear brother of Soula Liambas (the late Vasilis) and Roula Kaskamanidou (Michael).

George emigrated to Toronto from Florina, Greece at 16 years of age. He lived with his Uncle until he met and married his future wife, Helen. He worked for 24 years at Cara Operations Restaurant Division at Pearson Airport at the original Terminal 1 where he met many different people from all walks of life including politicians, entertainers and many sports celebrities. Later after retiring at 51 years of age, he ventured into an entrepreneurial opportunity with his brother-in-law, David Sideris. At age 54 he was able to realize his life-long dream to fully retire and visit his homeland in Greece. He spent the next 24 summers there. With his wife, sister and brother-in-law they travelled extensively all over Europe and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

George will be remembered by his family and friends that he made throughout his lifetime by being the proverbial host while entertaining all comers to his well-stocked bar. With his sharp wit and banter there was always laughter and joy mixed in with many life lessons along the way.

Friends may call at the Turner & Porter “Peel” Chapel, 2180 Hurontario St, Mississauga, ON (HWY 10 N. of QEW) on Monday, July 29, 2024 from 6-9 PM. A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at 11 AM.

Interment at St. John's Dixie Cemetery, 737 Dundas St E. Mississauga.

Many thanks to the very kind, considerate and caring staff at Post Inn Village in Oakville. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly recommends donations to Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.

George and Helen were second parents to me. I spent almost as much time in their home as I did mine. Many, many happy memories. Rest in peace, Mr. Lazenkas.
