In Celebration of

George Johann Willi Fehlings

July 6, 1933 -  April 12, 2023

Passed away peacefully at Simcoe Manor, Beeton Ontario. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 55 years, Ingrid (2011).

Cherished father to Dr. Michael Fehlings and his wife Dr. Darcy Fehlings, Steven and his wife Pam O'Grady. Adored “Opa” to Dr. Tara Fehlings (Darren Gray) Lauren (Matt Reeves), Nicholas (Sawan), Adam and Madelyn; and “Ur-Opa” to Abby, Theo, Arthur, Farley, and Eloise.

George was the loving son of the late Georg and Else Fehlings, is predeceased by his brother Heinz and sister Else and survived by his younger brother Guenther.

Born in Heerlen, Holland and growing up in the Ruhr region of Northern Germany, George fell in love with Canada after reading Jack London’s “Call of the Wild”. The love of Canada and its natural beauty was a theme George would follow his entire life. George met his future wife Ingrid while vacationing in her home town of Baden Baden in the Black Forest. They were married in 1956 and that same year emigrated to Canada to build their life and family in the Toronto area, and later the rolling hills of Mulmer, Ontario.

George—affectionately known to family and friends as “The G”, was a master tile setter and gifted with his hands, working expertly on many high and low rise project sites throughout the GTA. When he retired in 1990, George spent many hours in the gardens and woods of his country property in Mulmer, which he lovingly referred to as “the shack in the bush” and where he enjoyed the serenity of the rural lifestyle with his beloved Ingrid. Together they hosted many friends and family for large meals and celebrations, often serving vegetables from their garden.

George loved spending time with his sons and their families—especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren. “Opa” leaves them with many cherished memories filled with love and adoration.

The “G” will be greatly missed by all. His smile will live forever in our hearts. A private funeral and celebration of life for family will be held on April 20, 2023. Interment will occur at Park Lawn Cemetery. If desired, in lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in George’s name to the Fehlings Spinal Cord Injury Research Program, Krembil Brain Institute at Toronto Western Hospital.

I love you Opa! I especially cherish the times that we spent with you in the summers at your country home going on long walks, helping to weed the vegetable garden and swimming for hours in your pool! We would be so excited for when you would chop down a tree for us for Christmas! Ich liebe dich.
