George Christoforacos

Family and friends mourn the passing of Georgios on February 2, 2024 at Scarborough General Hospital.
Predeceased by his beloved wife, Dimitra, loving father of Hellene, beloved papou of Anathea, Marisa, Jena (Chris), loving great papou of Fynn and Hudson, loving and caring uncle, cousin, in-law.
Georgios was born in Kaloni, Sparta, Greece and emigrated to Canada in 1953. He worked as a janitor and pin boy before going into the restaurant business with his siblings. In the early 1960’s, his brother in law (Paris) and he purchased the Swansea Restaurant which they operated for over 30 years. He was an active, supportive member of the community and with Stephens (lawyer), and Farb (tailor) who had businesses in Bloor West, created the Bloor West Association on a table at the Swansea Restaurant. Georgios was also instrumental in changing the status of the south side of Bloor Street so beer and wine could be served. For his Greek village community he spearheaded the founding of an association to help maintain its Byzantine roots. He welcomed Greek newcomers into his home and helped them begin their new life in their adopted country.
Georgios was a lover of life, who loved dancing, entertaining, playing cards, BBQing, going to the village, picking olives and hosting family gatherings. He gave unwavering care to all people whose lives he touched and was forever committed to all his family and friends.
He is now reunited with his beloved wife, Dimitra, who he has missed terribly.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday February 7th – 2-4 pm and 5-8 pm at Turner and Porter 2357 Bloor St. W.
Funeral Service will be held on Thursday February 8, 2024 at Annunciation of Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Cathedral (136 Sorauren Avenue at 11:00 a.m.
Interment at Sanctuary Park Cemetery (1570 Royal York Road)
