In Celebration of

Gene Simkus

July 20, 1941 -  February 17, 2017

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gene Simkus. Gene succumbed to the effects of ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) after being diagnosed in late 2015. She was the beloved wife and soulmate of Romas (Roy) Simkus. They enjoyed 56 years of wedded bliss together. Gene was the loving mother of Vic (Asta) Simkus and predeceased in 2012 by her beautiful daughter Kristina. Gene adored and was adored by her 5 grandchildren Daina, Vytas and Romas Simkus and Zara and Andriejus Sukauskas. Gene will be sadly missed by her sister Rita Slapsys and sister-in-law Irene Vibrys. She was loved by her many nieces, nephews and friends. Gene was a special person; she cared deeply for others, always finding the time and energy to lend a helping hand. She will be sorely missed.

It has been almost 50 years since I first met Gene, working as the (very helpful) company receptionist in the main lobby of Manulife. We always had good laughs about the events of the day and enjoyed a working friendship over the over many years.

You will be sadly missed by your family and friends, and never forgotten.

Genė always had a beautiful smile and open arms for those whom she met. She was gracious and vivacious; so energetic. Though she has left us too soon, I wish her easy rest with Kristina now. Tegul amžina šviesa Tau bešviečia.

My deepest sympathies to Roy and family for your loss. I met Gene in the early 70's and she was a beautiful person, mentor and a friend to me. I admired and respected Gene very much. She was a lovely person who will remain forever in our memories.

Gili užuojauta visai šeimai netekus brangios Genutės. Prisimenu Ją kai mes abi priėmėm pirmą Komuniją, grojom parapijos orkestre ir sportavom. Tegul Ji ilsisi ramybėje.

I was saddened to learn of Gene's passing and extend my condolences to her family. Gene and I worked together at ManuLife many many years ago. I fondly remember Gene as being (at that time) our telephone lady -- if anyone had any problems related to that business tool, we only had to call Gene and be confident that she'd look into things. But mostly, I recall her beautiful smile - her entire face would light up and, in turn, whatever problems we may have had, they were eased.

Be at rest, Gene.
