In Celebration of

Gary Austin Hodgins

July 23, 1938 -  December 22, 2023

Gary Hodgins passed away at St. Michael Hospital surrounded by loved ones. Gary grew up in Leaside, where he attended school and spent many happy hours on local athletic sports teams. Gary earned his BSc at the University of Toronto to embark on a corporate career in mortgage insurance and later real estate development while raising a family and obtaining his MBA at York University. After leaving the corporate world, Gary pursued various entrepreneurial endeavours, spending the last 25 years in the healthcare industry. Gary was known for his warmth, laughter, storytelling, zest for life, and desire to make a positive difference. Gary was the first to volunteer to be a coach for the kids’ sports team,; to contribute to community-building events and to mentor younger entrepreneurs. Gary’s most treasured roles were as a father, husband, and Big G. He will be greatly missed by his wife Martha Wilson, and his children Corrinne Hodgins (Geoff Smith), Stephen Hodgins, Elinor Rousseau (David Raaflaub), Gabrielle Rousseau (Dave Norrie), Mary-Elizabeth Rousseau (Abe Hannan), and his beloved grandchildren Scarlett and Ophelia Hannan. His extended family of in-laws, nieces, nephews, and very good friends enriched his life immeasurably. He was predeceased by his parents, Gordon and Maybelle and his brother Ronald. His life will be celebrated at Turner and Porter Funeral Home, 2357 Bloor Street West, on January 13, 2024, from 2-5 pm.

Heartbroken to lose Uncle Gary. I have the best memories of him as a child. He would play with me at every family gathering. His laughter would fill me with so much happiness. Uncle Gary was one of those adults that made my big family childhood memories feel oh so special. He will be greatly missed! Thinking of all of you Martha, Elinor, Gabby, and Mary-Elizabeth. Love from Australia- Cat and Jimmy

We have so many fond memories from our time spent living beside Gary, Martha and the girls. Sharing impromptu coffee breaks on the back porch, chasing racoons out of the house, and just being there for us and our family. Upon hearing about Gary's death our son Cameron stated "He was an awesome person" and truly he was. We'll all miss him....
