In Celebration of

Florence Victoria McWilliam

June 11, 1935 -  May 5, 2024

Passed away peacefully in her bed at Hearthstone Residence on May 5, 2024 at the age of 88.

Predeceased by her loving husband Albert, with whom she shared 49 years of marriage until his passing in 2012, Florence was the beloved mother of Karen (Andrew Leyzack), Steve, (Nicole Pearson), and Laura (Simon West). She was the adored grandmother to her 6 grandchildren: Aislin, Hannah, Charlie, Michael, Leyzack (Gabriel) and Sam.

Florence (Mom) had a heart of gold; for those who knew her she was breathtakingly beautiful - inside and out - her generosity of spirit and self was unmatched. As a mother she was always there for her children, was always ready with an open heart and open ears. She held space the only way a mother can & was an impeccable listener. She will be deeply missed. Mom put her children and then eventually her grandchildren ahead of herself always. She ensured our wellness and our needs were being met as much as she could, and would challenge us when needed. These challenges were to help push us to be better. They always did.

Mom loved being a grandmother to her 6 grandkids. Her sensitivity and empathy shone through and she was there for them as she was for their parents. She adored having her grandkids visit and update her on their goings-on. As one of her grandkids remarked, “Grandma was born to be a grandma.” Yes. Yes she was.

Mom loved her children and her grandchildren; she loved her sons-in-law and daughter in law; she was proud of her family and the legacy she and dad had created. She missed her husband daily and missed us when we weren’t around. To keep her company she loved her reality TV shows, old movies, and even some of the newer Netflix hits! Mom had a deep love for and empathy towards all animals, and would donate to animal-based organizations locally and globally. She adored birds, their freedom and beauty and perhaps that was one of the reasons she loved to travel!…. Unfortunately with the multiplicity of health & mobility issues over much of her life, she didn’t get to travel as much as she would have liked. Australia, Mexico, Las Vegas, the Yukon, BC, and Quebec were but a few places that were graced with her presence.

Mom had worked prior to marrying dad; she was a medical secretary and she moved quickly through the secretarial “pool” to bigger and brighter things. Although she spoke fondly of her life before marriage and children, her true passion and reason d’etre was family…..

Mom, we will forever miss you; you are in our hearts, you have shaped us, taught us, given us the beautiful parts of you that we carry on in our own lives and children; losing you has left a profound impact and hole in our lives that is as deep and wide as the love that you gave. Thank you for all of your gifts. We love you Mom - now, forever and always."

Steve we will remember our moms together with a glass of wine soon on the porch. What a beautiful testament to read. Only a beautiful mother can produce such a wonderful person and family as you and yours.
