One of the most steadfast, devoted and faithful of god’s children, Filomena, received her wings to be reunited with her beloved husband Tony.

Cherished mother to Maria Mastrangelo (Paul), Linda Di Genova (Gino) and Nick Perrotta (Kathy). Adored by her grandchildren Lisa Giancola (Steve), John Paul Di Genova (Lorena), Alicia Perrotta Rains (Andrew), Melissa Mastrangelo Bruno (Tony), Brittany DeCaire (Steven) and Kaitlyn Perrotta Camilleri (Tyler). Blessed with great-grandchildren Alexander, Alyssa, Sofia, Theo, Lila, Alessia, Abigail and Mia.

Filomena was born September 1st, 1929 in Bonefro, Campobasso, Italy and married her husband on August 9th, 1951. In search of a better life, our parents moved to Lille, France. Shortly after Maria & Linda were born, 18 months apart. In1955, after just having mastered the French language, our determined father decided to move his family to Canada in search of an even better life.

Without knowing a word of English, our mother with two young daughters in tow, followed her husband to Toronto in 1956. Our parents worked tirelessly to provide opportunities for their girls. In 1958, Nick, the son they longed for, came into the world on his father’s birthday to carry our family name.

Mom was a hard worker. She approached each day and completed each task with strength and dignity. She opened her home to family members, Charlie, Domenic and Santina as they each arrived in Canada to start their own journeys. She treasured her sister-in-laws, Gabriella and Nicolina and leaves behind many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Beyond her role as a wife, mother and immaculate housekeeper, she attended English language classes in order to gain independence and model the importance of commitment, discipline and determination. She found a job in a plastics manufacturing facility in Mississauga. At the age of 49, she successfully obtained her driver’s licence.

Filomena left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered. She was sweet with a welcoming smile, and fiercely dedicated to her faith and her family. Her legacy to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren is her quiet resolve to be compassionate, to love unconditionally and to face each challenge with grace and dignity.

She led by example every day to the end of life.

Visitation will take place on Monday, October 4, 2021 at Turner & Porter, Peel Chapel and Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at St. Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church.
