Joan was an incredible, kind, fun and sweet mother of Margaret (Magi) Esthel Oman and truly loved her son-in-law William Charles Shaver. Joan was a devoted grandmother to Elizabeth Rose Shaver and Anna Olivia Pearl Shaver who in turn adored her. Predeceased by her husband George Keith Oman in 2006, Joan and Keith built a life in Toronto. As the only child of Olive “Timmie” Iona (Thompson) Frost and Alfred “Jack” John Frost, Joan was an accomplished artist, working in many mediums most notably in oil, acrylic and watercolour, but never shied away from trying something new, including sculpture and printing. In recent years, Joan taught at the Southampton Art School. Her award winning work was frequently on display across Ontario. Prior to becoming an artist, Joan trained as a Registered Nurse at Kingston General Hospital and graduated from Nursing Science at Queen’s University. She recently attended her 70th nursing reunion in Kingston and had the chance to see her classmates who she stayed in constant contact with. Joan was unique in that she was always up for anything. Even at 93 years of age, Joan displayed an incredible strength and determination to enjoy life and everyone who met her was drawn to her positive outlook. If Joan was invited to a party, a coffee in the middle of the night, a margarita with friends, a chance to see a solar eclipse, Joan would always be the first to accept even if she was already in bed for the night. All she needed to say was, “Just let me get my jeans on.....” and run out the door. Above all, Joan was grateful for everything, constantly thanking everyone who helped her. Joan’s family and friends are devastated but know that Joan had faith that this wasn’t the end but the start of a new chapter. Joan’s life will be celebrated by family and friends in the spring/summer with a display of her art work and everyone is invited to the opening.

In lieu of flowers, Joan’s wish was for support to be directed towards Toronto Grace Health Centre’s Remote Care Monitoring Program. This program was instrumental to help Joan stay in her own home for the last few years.
