In Celebration of

Ernest Ray Bateman

July 6, 1930 -  November 10, 2021

Ray passed away peacefully in Mississauga in his 92nd year after a life well lived. Ray was born on July 6, 1930 to Florence and Ernest Bateman in Tweed, Ontario. He grew up on a farm in the depths of the Great Depression that would forever define his character.

Ray is the beloved husband for 61 years of Darlene. Proud father of Paula (Wayne Roberts), and devoted Papa to Sydney Roberts Bateman. Ray is survived by his sister Margaret Ketcheson, of Belleville. He was predeceased by brothers Wilbur (Ethel), Don (Irene), Scott (Doris), brother-in-law Laurison Ketcheson and sister Doris Stubbington (Warren).

Ray spent his entire career of 45 years with the Toronto Dominion Bank. He started in Belleville and progressed over the years to an executive position at the head office in Toronto. Ray was a long- time member of Applewood United Church serving on various committees over the years. He was a member of the Executive Committee of Applewood Homeowners Association and a member of Applewood Probus Club. He loved his place in the country near Tweed where he planted and pruned trees and shrubs, and made challenging trails on the property. Ray also liked to explore the groomed trails in the area.

Cremation has taken place. A private graveside service will be held at Victoria Cemetery in Tweed at a later date.

If desired, donations can be made in Ray’s memory to The Arthritis Society, The Alzheimer Society, or the charity of your choice.
