Enerio “Faion” Faion, 89.75 years young, passed away suddenly in Toronto on Monday, December 23rd, 2024.
Born on Tuesday, March 26, 1935, to Valentino “Pierro” Faion and Albina “Zora” Svara in the province of Trieste, Italy, he endured the difficulties of war at an early age.
Settling in Toronto, at 25, he met and married the love of his life, Lucia Senese, on Saturday, January 21st, 1961, and was blessed with 2 amazing daughters, Gabrielle and Giordana, who would remain the apples of his baby blue eyes throughout his life.
In his lifetime he worked as a police officer, shifted career paths into construction, became an entrepreneur, rose up the ranks to production manager, and finally travelled the world as a teacher, mentor, and consultant. His reluctant retirement in his mid 70s saw his workaholic style transfer to his home and family. He took on the complete upkeep of his household as well as those of both his daughters, while problem-solving all manners of jobs provided by his loving wife.
An avid storyteller, a crossword puzzle aficionado, and a green-thumb magician, he could command the room with his insights and wicked sense of humour. He loved his morning cup of coffee, any reason to drive his car, and following Formula-1 with his wife. However, the highlight of every week was the set Saturday evening family dinner with everyone gathered around the table. Here, there were discussions of the week’s events, debates on politics, economics and world affairs, and the doling out of wisdom and advice while basking in the love of his family.
Faion is survived by his wife Lucia, his daughters, Gabie and Jodie, and his grandson, Christopher. He often exclaimed that becoming a grandfather was one of the greatest joys in his life.
To all that he did, he brought the mind of an engineer, the heart of a philosopher, and remained the salt of the earth to the end — he will be terribly missed.
