In Celebration of

Elizabeth "Liz/Betty" Ann Nilsen

July 2, 1936 -  June 4, 2024

We are saddened to share the news of Elizabeth "Liz" Nilsen's passing, on Tuesday, June 4, peacefully at her residence in Burlington. Liz was a long-time member of St. Simon's Anglican Church, and, prior to COVID, was a faithful member of its choir.

She was also devoted to helping the community through her avid volunteer work at the Mississauga Hospital for many years and by founding the Liz Nilsen and Bernie Gross Fund for the Community Foundation of Mississauga. Liz was retired from Air Canada, where she made many friends. She was predeceased, in 1984, by her husband Oivind “Ivan” Nilsen. Liz will be missed by her many friends, and especially Laura and Andrew Salter, who showed such kindness to her in recent years, ensuring she was cared for.

Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Funeral Home "Peel Chapel", 2180 Hurontario St., Mississauga on Wednesday June 12, 2024 from 5-7 p.m.

Funeral Service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, June 13, 2024 at 1 p.m. Fr. Malcolm French, Rector at St. Simon’s Anglican Church in Oakville will preside at her funeral.

Internment will take place, following the service, at St. John’s Dixie Cemetery, 737 Dundas St E, Mississauga.

We pray that Liz's friends will find comfort in knowing that she has now found peace in the arms of her Lord and Saviour.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Liz's memory can be made to St. Simon’s Anglican Church, 1450 Litchfield Rd. Oakville, ON. L6H 5P4 or by e-transfer etransfers@stsimon.ca
(Please write: “Liz Nilsen” in the memo field of e-transfers or cheques).

Liz was a kind lady, who quietly cared for others. Always a fun lady at a social event, and a smile and a greeting whenever we saw her.

Many fond memories of her.
