We first met in 1974 on her first day at Immigration. Lis was smiling that day and continued throughout her career. We spent many long evenings at Pearson waiting for late flights to arrive being entertained by Wayne W and Lis. Her contagious laughter was easily identified throughout the office.

Lis was a wonderful mentor to those that followed in her footsteps. Always willing to share and help. She portrayed the balance of humour, empathy, compassion, common sense and positivity. Lis took everything in stride. You always knew she was deep in thought when she twirled a lock of her hair over and over. I don’t think Lis knew the positive impact she had on others. The calm in the midst of kaos.

Lis loved her family and shared pictures of her grandson Logan frequently. The last months she faced cancer as she has lived her life - not wanting to burden others with her ups and downs. Her and Joe so grateful for Katy, Aaron and Logan.

I valued her opinion and friendship. I will never forget her laugh.......

It is heartbreaking that I am today adding my comments to a memorial page for my treasured friend and colleague, Lis. I met her when she joined our shift on her first day at the airport, Christmas Day 1974. As kindred spirits, we soon developed a close and jovial work/personal relationship.

Lis was smart, warm, funny, dedicated, supportive, hard-working and a joy to be around. It is no exaggeration to say that, in the Immigration family, no one is held in higher esteem than Lis Malowany.

My condolences to Joe, Kate, Aaron, Lis' precious Logan and the Smele and Malowany families. I met only a few of you but feel I know you all through the family stories Lis shared over the years.

At times of loss, I am reminded of words spoken by the Queen at a memorial for British casualties of 9/11: "Grief is the price we pay for love."

The love will stay strong in the memories we cherish,

Wayne

To Lis' Family,

Lis will be sadly missed by countless people. She has touched all of us here in the Immigration/Customs world in so many ways. She was a role model to many, a kind soul to talk to and always held herself with such dignity and grace. We will miss our dearest Lis!
