In Celebration of

Eleanor Margaret Ludlow

January 6, 1933 -  April 29, 2019

It is with great sadness that the Ludlow Family is announcing the passing of our sweet Matriarch. Eleanor Margaret Ludlow (nee Dunlevy) passed away gracefully on April 29th, 2019, her Dad’s Birthday, at Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga, Ontario.

Eleanor was born on January 6th, 1933 to Robert and Annie Dunlevy. Eleanor was the second oldest of 5 siblings. The Dunlevy family lived in Parkdale and struggled through the plight of the Great Depression.

Eleanor’s character was that built on a strong English constitution and the stubbornness of an Irish lass. She carried those traits with her throughout her life and right up to her very last breath.

On February 3rd, 1962 at Holy Family Parish, Eleanor and her two daughters, Jill and Laura, started a new life with Johnny Ludlow. Johnny and Ellie went on to expand their life with three more children, Roberta, Jeffrey and Jon. Together Johnny and Ellie tried hard each and every day of their 57-year marriage to give their children and grandchildren everything they could.

For most of her life, Eleanor worked in Property Management. It was always important for her to get a job done right. Whether it was making sure the proper paper clip was precisely attached to a certain place on her documents or the time she took to hand write all of her correspondence. Only she could do it the proper way.

Ellie, as she was known to friends and relatives, was as sharp as a tack and never missed a thing. This held true right through to the end. She was very bright and well read. She kept the Toronto Star and CFTO News in business.

Ellie was never afraid to give her opinion or speak up to anyone should they have gotten out of line. She always held a steadfast course.

Ellie had the softest skin ever! That was the first thing that everyone commented on when they met her. She was cute and sweet as a button.

For Eleanor, the most important role of her life was being “Ma” and “Grandma”. Her firstborn grandchild Michelle said it best, “All Grandma did and knew her whole life was how to be Mom and Grandma”.

A strong woman who fiercely loved her children and 11 grandchildren.
A strong woman, whom was both soft and powerful.
A strong woman, who in her essence, was one of the best gifts of our lives.
That is who Eleanor Margaret Ludlow was.

She will be sadly missed by her husband John. Her children Jill Durette (predeceased) (Jerry Durette) (predeceased), Laura Ferguson (Greg Ferguson) (predeceased), Roberta Ludlow (Eva Klimsa), Jeff Ludlow (Karen Holgate), and Jon Ludlow (Marian Prejel). Her grandchildren Michelle Cline (Michael Cline), Amber Cochrane, Alexander Whetham, Jessica Ludlow, Janey Ludlow, Ethan Ludlow, Georgia Ludlow, Colin Cline, William Cline, Samantha Cochrane and Melanie Cochrane.

Eleanor will also be missed by her surviving sister's Carol and Nancy. She was predeceased by her siblings, Bobby, Marlene and Geraldine. They have all met up again!

For those who wish, donations may be made to the Carlo Fidani Regional Cancer Centre or The Sick Kids Foundation.
