In Celebration of

Eleanor Ketchen (nee Guiette)

October 14, 1939 - January 30, 2025

With heavy hearts but grateful spirits for the time we had with her, we announce the passing of Mary Eleanor Ketchen (née Guiette) on January 30, 2025. Born in Toronto on October 14, 1939, Eleanor lived a life filled with love, laughter, and an endless stream of lively conversation.

For 64 wonderful years, she was the devoted and loving wife of George, a partnership that was as strong as it was full of humour and warmth. She was the cherished mother of Craig, Christine (Mike), Kevin, and Brad – each of whom benefited from her boundless love, quick wit, and legendary storytelling. She was a loving grandmother to two grandsons, Harrison and Willem.

She was a beloved sister-in-law to Dianne Wilk (Ed), Jeanne Slauko, Marlene Sculati (David), and Donna Ketchen, an aunt to six nephews and four nieces, and a dear friend to so many who will miss her laughter and warmth.

Eleanor was the kind of person who could – and would – strike up a conversation with just about anyone. Whether she was sharing a funny story from the past, offering a piece of advice, or just telling you about her day with her signature charm, she had a way of making everyone feel special. She had a wonderful sense of humour and wit, and her kindness was unwavering.

In lieu of flowers, Eleanor would have loved for donations to be made to SickKids Foundation, a cause close to her heart. To honour Eleanor’s wishes, cremation has already taken place and there will be no service. A private celebration of life with close family will take place at a later date.

Eleanor leaves behind her own legacy of love, laughter, and countless stories that will bring smiles to our faces for years to come. While our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing that wherever she is now, in peace, she's chatting away and making sure everyone is happy.
