Edwin George Henry, son of Alberta Thomas and Jacob Henry, passed away peacefully at home in Toronto, Ontario on Monday afternoon, September 02, 2024. Edwin was born March 30, 1940 on St. John’s Road in Spanish Town, St. Catherine’s, Jamaica. He came to Canada as a cobbler (shoemaker) during the 1960’s when the country was seeking skilled Labourers.
Known as “George” or "King George" by the people who knew him in the Bloor-Dovercourt and Parkdale neighbourhoods where he lived for nearly 50 years, Edwin enjoyed listening to Reggae music, sports (especially soccer), playing dominoes, fishing, bike riding, walking and having Tim Horton’s coffee while gathering with his friends.
Edwin leaves behind eight (8) children: three (3) daughters and five (5) sons; 14 grandchildren; and nine (9) great-grandchildren.
A “Celebration of Life Gathering” for Edwin with Family and Friends is being held on Thursday, September 12, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Turner & Porter Funeral Directors, Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor Street West (at Windermere Avenue), Toronto, Ontario.
