In Celebration of

Edward Liptay

April 27, 1932 -  August 21, 2024

After an incredible run of 92 years, Ed passed away peacefully on August 21, 2024. Beloved son of Stefan and Anna, Ed was born in Toronto and raised on a farm in the west end of the city. His experience growing up in The Depression as the child of Slovak immigrants fuelled a lifelong sense of duty to family and to his role as a provider. He was driven to succeed in business and, among many other ventures, Ed became the owner of three successful golf courses which were a source of great pleasure in his life.

Ed is survived by his loving spouse of many years, Rose, and his four children: Monica (Harold), Steve, Ed (Caroline), and Christine (Glen). He was the proud and loving grandfather of nine grandchildren: Stephan, Madeleine and Claire, Henry, Teddy, Rebecca and Sam, and Jack and Chloë. Ed was predeceased by his four siblings: John, Joey, Mary and Helen.

In the face of numerous challenges during his long life, Ed personified grit and determination, and he maintained enthusiasm until the end for life’s simple pleasures such as apple picking and golfing with his grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Joseph Brant Hospital as well as Jash Shewlall and family, and to extend heartfelt gratitude to Mike Reece and Annie Shewlal for their years of extraordinary devotion.

Friends may call at the Turner and Porter “Peel” Chapel, 2180 Hurontario Street, (N. of QEW) Mississauga, on Sunday, August 25, 2024 from 2-5 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Parish, 5225 Thornwood Drive, Mississauga on Monday, August 26, 2024, at 10 a.m. Interment will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery, Toronto.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association and/or Joseph Brant Hospital.

Hello: I am sorry for your loss.

Years ago my Mother (Mary Forest nee Budicky) gave me a wedding portrait where she was a Bridesmaid. (I have downloaded it to the gallery.) I understood that it was her cousin's wedding to a Mr. Liptay (first name unknown), probably in the late 1930's. Do you recognize anyone in this picture ? Any chance we are related, at least by marriage ?

Regards
Al Forest

Sending Prayers and Strength to the family . Many fond memories of ‘Uncle ‘ Ed from my childhood to having him attend our wedding in Dominican Republic . My dad shared many wonderful stories of Ed one of best friends throughout his life . I know those two ( Ed & Vincent ) will be up to shenanigans and laughter in Heaven .
