In Celebration of

Edward Doherty

November 26, 1946 -  August 30, 2024

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Ed Doherty at the age of 77, peacefully at Mississauga Hospital following a brief illness.

Originally from Guelph, Ontario, and spending most of his life in Mississauga, Ed was content to work as an English and History teacher, at Michael Power High School, be with his family and study the works of Shakespeare. He will be greatly missed by his wife Mary, his children Sarah (Ryan), Joe, Caitlin (Mike), and his grandchildren, Eoin, Declan, Adrienne, Hannah and Asher, his sisters Donna (Jeff) Doherty Lozon, and Maureen (Hady) Doherty Lotfy, and all his nieces. He is predeceased by his parents Kathleen and Joseph Doherty and his brothers, Bill and Paul Doherty.

Ed was a character. He loved a good story, whether it was a bit of gossip or a well-timed complaint. He delighted in telling people that he retired at 56 and was really enjoying it. He loved the Blue Jays and reading Shakespeare. Buddy the dog was starting to grow on him too. His coffee club, including the late Bob Amaolo, made him very, very happy and we are so appreciative that he had those friends for so long.

There's no need to send flowers or donations. Maybe just pick a Shakespearean play and read it again and think of Ed. He'd like that.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 6, 2024 from 7 - 9 p.m. at Turner & Porter Neweduk Chapel located at 1981 Dundas St. W. Mississauga.

My deepest condolences to Ed’s family. Ed was such a kind person who had the power to console at the most profound level. Good night, sweet prince., and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.

I’m so sorry I won’t be able to attend the visitation. I thought the world of Ed. He was one of the first to welcome me at MPSJ back in January 1985. He had a great sense of humour and I’m sorry I never had a coffee with that coffee club! Rest in peace Ed. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to his children, grandchildren, siblings and to Mary !

Dear Mary, Sarah and family,
I’m so sorry to hear about Ed’s passing. Although we didn’t see each other often, it was always a pleasure to talk to Ed whenever I encountered him in the neighborhood.
Please accept my sympathy.
