In Celebration of

Edward Coman

January 5, 1938 -  March 9, 2022

Beloved husband of Rae Coman, cherished father of Colleen (Jeff), Lori (Stuart), Gregory (Jody), adored grandfather of Colin (DIna), Andrew (Cassandra), Hilary (Brian), Emily (Sam), Briar (Carlos) and Tess (Ryan), daughter-in-law Mary, and great grandfather to Robin, Ed passed away at home surrounded by family on Wednesday March 9, 2022.

Born at home in Rouyn-Noranda, Ed grew up in Toronto with his parents, Sava and Anne, brothers Fred and Mickey. After learning electronics in the RCAF, he met the love of his life Rae Bristol in Brandon, Manitoba. They soon married and moved to Montréal and then Toronto to raise their three children. Their love was deep and affectionate.

His children experienced a legacy of incredible, unconditional love, super hugs, and generosity beyond measure. He encouraged his kids and grandkids to be strong and fulfil their passions. He shared his love for swimming with his kids and grandkids, scuba diving with Greg, Jeff, and Andrew, exploring the Kiev caves with Lori, spending time in Muskoka with Colleen’s family and spending happy times beside the pool, at the table, and magical times around the Christmas tree. He was always present for us.

Ed’s career started as an RCAF electronic technician, then went on to being a draughtsman for the Avro Arrow, Litton Systems and a 25-year career at Air Canada. Ed also founded Omniterm Data Technology, a global theatre ticketing company which he ran for 43 years. It gave him unlimited time with Rae, the chance to travel the world and develop many wonderful friendships. He was involved in the Kingsway-Lambton Church where he served and was well loved.

Rae cherished him with selfless love, and this was never more apparent than during his recent declining health when she never left his side. We are grateful for all the love of family and especially thank Jeff and Stuart for their caring ways. Despite our grief, Dad’s limitless love will stay in our hearts forever. To honour his legacy of loving others and his proud Ukrainian roots, please send any donations to a Ukrainian Humanitarian Relief Fund, such as Leleka Foundation.

The family will receive friends at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, (2357 Bloor St. W.) on Monday, March 14, 2022, from 4:00 - 7:00 pm. Funeral Service will be at Kingsway-Lambton United Church (85 The Kingsway) on Tuesday March 15 at 1 p.m. Interment to follow at Park Lawn Cemetery.

Greg, I am very sorry to hear about your dad's passing. What a life! I only knew of the Omniterm stuff, of course, but such a rich professional career and, most importantly, an anchor of the extended family. I remember Heidi said that my mum was lucky to have had a full (although much shorter) life because she saw her kids grow up and was blessed with grandchildren as well as having a full personal and professional life. I think of those words today as I read about your dad. May you all find more and more comfort in the days and weeks ahead as you adjust to life without him. Thinking of you, brother. D.

Dear Rae and Greg and family. I was so sorry to hear of the passing of Ed. He was a wonderful man that I was lucky to work with for many years at Cineplex and was always happy to see and spend time with at Showcanada's every year. He will be missed greatly. May his memory be a blessing.
