In Celebration of

Dr. Stephen McKenzie

July 31, 1953 -  July 18, 2022

It is with great sadness that the family announces the death of Stephen McKenzie at the age of 68, after a courageous battle with cancer. Stephen was a loving husband to his wife, a proud father to his son and daughter, and an adoring grandfather to his grandson.

Stephen graduated from the University of Ottawa medical school with highest academic standing before embarking on a 40-year career as a much-loved and respected neurologist at Trillium Health Partners in Mississauga, where he was one of the neurology department’s founding members. Always generous with his time in caring for patients, he was a leader in the field of multiple sclerosis. He was equally a passionate and dedicated educator and mentor to three generations of medical students at the University of Toronto.

He had a lifelong love of literature and classical music and took great pleasure in the gifts of nature as an avid sailor and cyclist. Believing strongly in active citizenship, he spoke with elected representatives about the need to preserve our natural world for future generations.

Private family cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Stephen’s life will take place at Credit Valley Golf & Country Club, 2500 Old Carriage Road, Mississauga, on Sunday, August 14th from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m (masks are requested to be worn).

The family would appreciate donations in Stephen’s memory to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada.

Stephen was an incredible doctor, husband, father, grandfather and dear friend. He touched so many lives with his infinite kindness and care. He was a brilliant doctor and yet a very humble man. The world is a better place because of Stephen and he will never be forgotten. We grieve for his family, especially his shining star.

May I offer you my condolences. Stephen and I were in public school together

He had a keen mind then and had a great smile and keen sense of humour. His years of service
as a physician are testimony to his fine intellect.

Dr. Mckenzie was a very special person to me . Over 30 years ago He helped diagnose my mothers Parkinson and helped with her treatment. He was an inspiration to my mother who went from being almost complete in mobile to working her garden and baking and cooking up a storm. Now of course moms Parkinson has gotten worse. to us Dr. Mckenzie was the best. It will be hard to find another dr like him. He will definitely be missed.
we wont ever forget him.

We send our deepest condolences to the entire family. He will always be with you.
Hugs
