In Celebration of
Dr. Michael Bryan Sharpe
February 3, 1965 -
June 22, 2016
Peacefully, with his family by his side, on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at the age of 51. Beloved husband of Jane Pearson Sharpe. Cherished father of Gregor and Emily. Much loved son of Bryan and Shirley. Dear brother of David (Julie) and Derek (Leslie) and “Uncle Mike” to Alyson, Gavin, Eoin, Ashley and Jason.
Michael received his Ph.D. in Medical Biophysics from the University of Western Ontario in 1997. His career as a Medical Physicist started at the William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. In 2002, Mike joined the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre where he worked tirelessly to build an innovative, world-leading radiation treatment program for the benefit of cancer patients across the province and around the world. As an Associate professor in the Departments of Radiation Oncology and Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the University of Toronto, Mike will be fondly remembered as a generous teacher and mentor for the many young physicists, radiation therapists and oncologists who benefited from his wisdom and experience.
Mike found great joy riding the roads of Southern Ontario, South Carolina, Italy and Mallorca with like-minded friends, especially the RMP Accelerators and Team Race. The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation and the Coast to Coast Against Cancer Foundation both benefited from his many fundraising rides.
Michael loved his family, cherished his friends, loved to travel the globe teaching, learning and riding and told us that he couldn’t have lived a better life.
Friends may call at the Turner & Porter “Neweduk-Erin Mills” Chapel, 1981 Dundas St. W., Mississauga (just east of Erin Mills Pkwy) on Tuesday, June 28 from 6-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Christopher’s Roman Catholic Parish, 1171 Clarkson Rd.
