In Celebration of

Dr. Indira (de Silva) Anandakrishnan

June 29, 1944 -  November 21, 2023

Passed peacefully at home on November 21st with her beloved husband of 52 years Dr. Canagasundram Anandakrishnan (Ananda) and her daughter Sharmila by her side. Darling Ammi (mother) of Sharmila Clark (Brooke) and Thusitha Cotter (Gavin). Loving Aachchi (grandmother) of Thea, John, Wyatt, Martha, Thomas, Prudence, Gareth and Frances. An only child, she will be greatly missed by her sisters-in-law, Sushila (Dharmarajah), Nalini (Shan), Padmini (Jeya), and her brother-in-law Bala (Barbara), her nieces and nephews, her cousins in Canada, the UK and Sri Lanka, her dear friends in Newfoundland, and Anoja Fernando and the rest of the medical school batch who have kept in touch for 59 years from all over the world.

Indira and Ananda met in medical school in Colombo, Sri Lanka in 1964. She became an Ophthalmologist and he a Dermatologist. Together they practised in Sri Lanka, the UK and Canada, spending nearly 30 happy years working in Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland, surrounded by natural beauty and wonderful friends, before retiring to Toronto to be closer to family.

Indira loved to read, paint and travel. Together she and Ananda travelled the world, visiting every continent (except Antarctica), but in her recounting of her travels, nothing compared to the understated beauty of Sri Lanka.

Diagnosed with corticobasal syndrome 3 years ago, she was lovingly cared for at home by Ananda, the most considerate and compassionate husband anyone could ever wish for.

The family will be gathering privately. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the St. Michael’s Hospital Elder Care Clinic and the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care, Sinai Health, both of whom made it possible for Indira to be cared for at home in accordance with her wishes.

Our deepest and sincere sympathies for your family’s loss. We met only on a few momentous occasions (graduation and wedding), but her strength and kindness is apparent from love and tenderness with which her family spoke of her.

Sincerely
Manjit & Manni
