In Celebration of

Dr. Colin Richard McArthur

July 18, 1935 -  May 19, 2020

It is with deep sadness that we mourn the loss of Colin, who passed away peacefully, at home, on Tuesday, May 19, 2020. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Jane of 60 years. Together they had two children, Stuart (Sharon) and Janet Lampman (Tim), and four grandchildren, Sarah, Evan, Kristen and Megan. He is also survived by his sister, Elaine and predeceased by his brother, Donald. Colin will also be missed by many members of his extended family and friends.

Colin was a professor of chemistry and natural science at York University for 30 years and served as Chair of the Department of Chemistry for two terms. He was also a dedicated member of the Canadian Chemical Society and served as an advisor for the Department of National Defense for two terms. Colin was a volunteer with the John Howard Society at the Ontario Correctional Institute, visiting inmates with the hope of supporting their return to the community. In recent years, Colin also enjoyed his role as a volunteer at the Royal Ontario Museum as one of the gallery interpreters.

Colin attended Onondaga Camp as a young man which instilled a love of nature. He was a talented musician and an avid gardener. Above all, Colin loved his family deeply. His gentle kindness and sense of humour will be sadly missed.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
A celebration of life for Colin will hopefully take place on a later date.

Our deepest condolences to Jane and her family. Colin was a true gentleman. Colin , Jane and I shared a passion for classical music. We would often meet in the lobby of Roy Thomson Hall before a concert , or perhaps on the GO Train en route to a Sunday series performance. Rest In Peace, Colin. I will miss our conversations.

Jane, Stuart, Janet,
I am so deeply saddened to hear of Colin's passing. I have such wonderful memoires as a child at Christmas at Grandma and Grandpa's with the gang. I know my father loved your dad. In more recent years I remember discussing the flu vaccine with Colin - I loved his VERY educated perspective.
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this time. I am grateful that I can hear his laugh as I type this....love to all. Gentle and Kind he will be remembered.
