In Celebration of

Douglas James Thompson

February 13, 1955 -  July 30, 2022

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas James Thompson on Saturday, July 30th, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born to Elsie and Arthur Thompson on February 13, 1955, Doug married the love of his life in 1981. For the past 41 years, Doug has been a dedicated and loving husband to his “Ruthie”, a devoted father to David (Audra) and Cheryl (Adam) and a proud Papa to his grandsons Brady and Blake. He is also survived by his brother Glenn (Carolyn).
While battling cancer for the last 8 years, Doug’s strong will, fierce competitiveness and positive attitude meant that he always had a smile on his face around family and friends even though he was experiencing immense pain inside. Doug never hesitated to try a treatment regardless of the side effects and exhausted all medications and surgical procedures available during his fight.
Raised in Rexdale, Doug developed a deep love for sports and was a gifted athlete with a mean handshake. He never shied away from a challenge. He loved fishing with his kids & grandkids, partaking in the neighborhood crawl and everything Christmas.

He will be forever remembered for his kindness, sense of humor and joy of life.

Deeply saddened to hear of Doug's passing. We are grateful to have had the Thompsons as neighbours since we moved across the street almost 32 years ago, The nicest guy ever, Doug was always happy to lend a hand or a tool. Fond memories of our kids playing together and seeing them grow up; assisting Doug coaching ball, playing shinny with him and the kids on a frozen pond. Doug was a man with a strong moral code and he taught his children and ours to settle arguments without violence. Nonetheless, he loved the game of hockey and was a die-hard Leafs fan. Doug will be greatly missed on our street.
