It is with deep sorrow and great love that we announce the passing of Dorothy Sylvia Dias on April 7, 2025, at the age of 100.
The name Dorothy, derived from the Greek, means “Gift of God”—and truly, you were the greatest gift to us as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
As we reflect on your life, words cannot express our immense gratitude for the unconditional love and unwavering support you gave to your late husband Charles, your daughters Renee and Marion, son-in-law Rosario, grandchildren Richard and Denise, and great-grandchildren Jacob and Greta.
Your keen intelligence, thoughtful guidance, and wise counsel have been the foundation of our family, helping keep us close and united.
Your hearty laughter, strong and enthusiastic voice, and youthful energy inspired all who knew you—drawing family and friends alike into your vibrant presence.
Your beauty, zest for life, and determination to face life’s challenges instilled in us a sense of courage and purpose.
Your love for order and appreciation for the finer things in life were values you passed down to us with grace.
You connected effortlessly across generations—with patience, warmth, and curiosity—whether playing board games with your great grandchildren or engaging in passionate political discussions with friends and family.
Your remarkable energy fueled your success in everything you pursued: as a businesswoman and owner of Fantasia and Edward St. Rose Pharmacy in Mombasa, an exceptional chef, a talented cosmetician, a fashionable presence, and even a speedy walker—it was always hard to keep up with you!
Your inquisitive mind and thirst for knowledge were evident in your daily habits: reading, completing newspaper puzzles, keeping up with the news on CBC and CNN, and impressing us with your knowledge of sports and athletes.
Your devotion to daily Mass and prayer is a testament to your deep faith, and we are certain it has brought you to eternal peace with the Lord—and reunited you with Dad in Heaven.
A poem that perfectly captures your spirit:
“I feel that in the heavens above,
The angels, whispering to one another,
Can find no love so devoted and true
As the love we hold for our mother.”
Your greatest pride and joy were your grandchildren and great-grandchildren. You will be deeply missed and forever held in our hearts by your daughters Renee (Rosario) Fernandes and Marion Dias; grandchildren Richard Fernandes and Denise Orving (Erik); great-grandchildren Jacob and Greta; siblings Mela and Cassy D’Cunha, Pam Albuquerque (Victor), Hubert D’Cunha (Crecy); sister-in-law Joyce D’Cunha (late Ossy); and the late Tony D’Cunha. You will also be fondly remembered by your many nieces, cousins, and friends across Canada, England, and Australia.
