‘God could not be everywhere and therefore he made mothers.’
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Doris Mary
Hudson (nee Weiler) on January 24, 2019. As was her wish, she
passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family while in her
91st year. Married for almost 62 years, Doris was the beloved wife of
(the late) Ed and she will rejoice at joining him in heaven. Doris was a
devoted wife; loving mother to Jeff (Leslie Ann), Jill (Joe), Anne, Ed and
Tracy (Steve); beloved grandmother to Kaylea (Lucas), Jamie (Tom),
Matthew, Lauren, Stephanie, Lindsay and Ryan; and doting great-
grandmother to Henry, Charlie, Phoebe and Robyn. Doris is survived by
her sister Mary Cliff and her brother ‘Ron’ Schill, many nieces and
nephews, and countless friends and neighbours. Born on June 10,
1928, in Holland Centre, Ontario, Doris was the second youngest in a
family with 6 brothers and 2 sisters. She left her rural hometown of
Neustadt, Ontario to move to Toronto where she met and married the
‘love of her life’, Ed. Doris was the quintessential homemaker, and in
spite of a mid-life diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis, she found time to work
at the Toronto Star when she wasn’t playing bridge, catering wonderful
gatherings or volunteering for a variety of organizations. Doris was truly
the matriarch of her large and loving family and was a staunchly devout
member of the Catholic faith. She was predeceased by her parents,
Alphonse ‘Alf’ Weiler and Philomena ‘Minnie’ nee Schmidt, and her five
brothers: ‘Roy’, ‘Stan’, Hugh, ‘Bert’, Austin and her sister: ‘Audrey’. The
Hudson family would like to gratefully acknowledge the love and support
offered to Doris by the many caregivers who made it possible for her to
remain at home for the last few years, most especially Fe and Eula as
well as a team of caring PSWs. The kind staff at Dorothy Ley Hospice,
especially Dr. Louie Mavrogiannis, and homecare nurse, Maria
Cordovez, are also to be acknowledged. Family and friends may call at
the Turner and Porter Funeral Home (Butler Chapel) at 4933 Dundas St.
W., Etobicoke, Ontario on Tuesday, January 29th , 2-4pm and 6-8pm. A
funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Clement’s Roman Catholic
Church, 409 Markland Drive, Etobicoke, on Wednesday, January 30th at
11:00am. All are invited to join the family at a reception in the parish hall
immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, if desired, donations
in memory of Doris may be made to the MS Society of Canada or the
Alzheimer Society of Canada.
