Our beloved Don (Alexander Donald) Sirko unexpectedly passed on April 24th, 2023. Beloved husband of Irene for 46 years and adored Tato of Laryssa and Alexander. Brother of Steve and his wife Natalie and son Stefan. Predeceased by his parents John Sirko (April 11, 2012) and Nadia Sirko (May 9, 2018). He was an active community member, was part of several organizations and boards throughout the years, enjoyed golfing with his friends, skiing with his kids, biking along the lake in the summer with Laryssa and many thought he should have been a contractor with his extensive home improvement skills. He loved to travel and was looking forward to traveling to Paris with Irene and in the fall finally taking the all-boys trip with Alex he’d wanted to experience for a while.

Don was born February 27th, 1951 in Kitchener, Ontario where he grew up. He always wanted to go to Toronto. He saw his opportunity when he went to St. Basil College, an all-boys’ boarding school at the time. In 1969, as part of his European tour with Ukrainian Catholic Youth, he visited Ukraine where he was able to meet relatives for the first time and stayed closely connected with them over the years. On that trip, he officially met his future wife, Irene, and later married in June 1977. He received his BA in Economics at Wilfrid Laurier University after which he went on to University of Guelph for Economics. He found his passion when he became a Financial Planner. He was with Assante Financial Management for the past 20 years.

He believed in contributing to the community and was part of several organizations and boards throughout the years. He joined Parkdale-High Park-Humber Rotary Club in 1993, was a very active member having been President three times, volunteering his time at the Fort York Food Bank and Delta Bingo and proudly had a perfect attendance record for 30 years. He was a Board Member with the Ukrainian Care Centre and previously was on the committee of Help Us Help The Children. He was a huge supporter of GoCamp having volunteered in Ukraine and continued to participate remotely numerous times and actively and successfully recruited many with his stories.

Don was a devout Ukrainian Catholic and church member of Christ the Good Shepherd at St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Toronto. He previously was part of the Men’s Club at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, Mississauga and helped organize their yearly Malanka’s. He loved being active and went to the gym most mornings where he would get together with his group for a chat. He loved a good political debate. Not everyone agreed with him and in fact, there was a strict no politics rule at home. So, he greatly appreciated the opportunity when others tried taking him on.

Don enjoyed many things in life and appreciated art, had a love for architecture and was very excited to go see the opera Romeo & Juliet in Paris this summer. He was a great father always taking the family to new places to explore, was the main cook at home, loved to play with Coco and take her for walks.
Don was much loved by his family and friends. Those who knew him know him as a kind, charitable and a good person.
