Don Posterski

June 6, 1942 -  June 13, 2018

Memorial Service is on Sunday, June 24, 2018 at Tyndale Chapel, 3377 Bayview Ave, Toronto. Visiting with family and friends begins at 2:00 pm, and the service begins at 4:00 pm. Don was much too young to die. Glad we were able to re-connect a few yrs. ago at Lou and Nancy's. May the memories you've created in times/activities shared together over your lifetimes bring peace to all of you now. Ellie

Don will be dearly missed by many. He shared his love, laughter and wisdom on the waterfront, from coast to coast, round the globe, and most of all, with Beth, his extended family and his wide circle of friends. Thankful always for Don - the real deal.

Don had a key role in laying foundation stones for the Salvation Army's International Social Justice Commission beginning in 2007. That is where I really got to know him, and treasure his company. He had a clear eye for what was important and what was not. While Don was patient with us who were not as clear-sighted or as far along in the journey, he was determined to stay the course. While Don liked to express the well-turned catchy phrase, he valued expressing the truth even more. "True to you" was not just a book title.

Thank you, friend. God keep you wrapped forever in divine grace.

Don performed our wedding ceremony in Edmonton in 1979, relatively soon after I got to know him really (my husband knew him much longer than I). Don and Beth were in Toronto after we moved to Newfoundland and we had several really nice visits with he and Beth when in Ontario. I also had the privilege of introducing Don when he conducted workshops in NL related to the Project Teen Canada project. I have always experienced both Don and Beth to be very wise people and enjoyed every conversation I ever had with them. I considered each of them a friend. Don’s books and insights contributed to my Christian growth and I will always be grateful for them.

Yes, I suppose I am in the long line of mentees. Don was many things but one thing is certain, he was artful in thinking about, and acting on, the communication of the Christian faith. I first met him as a young university student at the University of Alberta. He gave me opportunities to speak at conferences he organized, long before I thought I was ready - but he thought I was. His belief in me and encouragement, and yes prodding, was very influential in my life. I thank God for him and his ability to lead young people. We stayed in touch intermittently (email is a nice invention!). Jeri and I visited with him and Beth three years ago when we were through Toronto. It had been well over twenty years since we had been together but it was yesterday. We got caught up on lots of things past and some new ones. The golf picture on this site brings a smile to my face about one of his newer passions. We had lived in Augusta Georgia for twenty years and Don of course was endlessly curious and questioning (a wonderful quality of his) about the Masters golf tournament. Our discussion was wide ranging on more important matters too - family, culture and how vibrant Christian faith is so desperately needed in our broken world.
Beth, we remember you in your grief and sadness. Your enduring marriage is an example of all that is good. And Don knew it! It was hard to get through a conversation with him without his mentioning your name, at least once! We love you. In Him, Allan and Jeri Josephson

During a Family Camp one hot summer day at Pioneer Lodge in Alberta several of us went white water rafting in the Red Deer River. Don and I along with a 16 yr. old girl climbed into a 2 man dingy and started off. Our raft went over a 4 or 5 foot water fall and dumped! We 3 lived, although I felt as if my lungs were going to explode before breaking through the white foam above my head. Several years later Don told me that that experience was his most near death experience of his life. The most devastating thing about that experience was that Don lost his hat!
