In Celebration of

Dolores (Loly) Gonzalez

April 25, 1936 -  February 18, 2024

Dolores (Loly) Gonzalez (nee Cerdeira) passed away peacefully and surrounded by family at St. Michael’s Hospital on February 18, 2024. She will be fondly remembered as the best mother, grandmother, cousin and friend that anybody could have asked for.

Born in Spain during the civil war in 1936, she attended boarding school in Vigo (Galicia) where she developed her lifelong love for playing the piano and for quadratic equations, and where she ultimately lived with her husband Andres (1931-2011) after their marriage in 1957 and became the mother of four children. She emigrated to Canada with Andres in 1969 to provide their four children with a better life than the dictatorship in Spain would be able to offer.

Throughout her life her biggest passions were her four children and then later her grandchildren. In her mind they could do anything and become anything they desired, and she was their ultimate cheerleader and biggest fan. She will be remembered for always showing up the second anybody needed her help. No job was ever too big or too small and she befriended everyone along the way.

She never gave up her quest to make the world a better place for anyone that needed it whether with a phone call, a visit, a letter, an email or a prayer. Fiercely independent, she was blessed with excellent health until the end, which allowed her to travel throughout Europe, the U.S., the Caribbean & Mexico with her children and grandchildren, her greatest joy.

She loved profoundly and she was profoundly loved. She will be deeply missed by her children Andre (Joanie), Mary (Mike), Bea (Andrew) and Chechi (Lance) and seven grandchildren David, Jackson, Daniel, Max, Will, Lilly and Andre. In Lieu of flowers should you wish to honor her memory please consider a donation to St. Michael’s Hospital Foundation. As per her wishes, a private service will be held.

Mary and family - While I never met your mother, she was constantly a part of Mary's stories about how wonderful her mother was. She spoke of how helpful and kind she was to her family and others. For sure she lives on in you Mary - you look like her (beautiful picture) and have such a warmth and care for others. I'm sure your siblings and all touched by her carry some of that too. Warm hugs to you all.

Dear Dolores, you are and will be always greatly missed. I know you are in a better place than here. Please tell my mom that Jila misses you as well. I am sure both of you now can become very good friends, same as your daughter, Mary, and I are.
Mary talked always about you whenever we were catching up. I know how much she will miss you and however no one on earth can replace you for her, I promise you I always be around her when she wants.
All of us are very proud of your 88 years of rich life
Your blessing and positive energy stay eternally around your loved ones here. Rest in peace 🙏💔
