In Celebration of

Dirk Roy Hermanns

April 13, 1972 -  May 13, 2020

It is with great sadness that the family of Dirk Roy Hermanns announces his sudden passing from an undiagnosed heart issue on Wednesday, May 13, 2020, at the age of 48 years. Dirk will forever be lovingly remembered by his wife Carol Hermanns (nee Lacher), and mother Gerti Hermanns. Dirk was cherished and loved by his late father, Rudi. He will also be forever remembered by his in-laws: Jeff and family, Sue and Nicole; Brian and family, Holly, Paul, and Paige; and Maureen and family, Keith and Joey. In Germany, Gerti’s sister Brigitte and family, Rudi & Andrea (Remmerde); Rudi’s sister Gertrud and family, Robert (predeceased), Juergen and Achim (Gross); Rudi’s sister Margot (predeceased) and family Helga.

Dirk and Carol’s love story began 29 years ago when they first met. They were husband and wife, best friends, and worked as a strong team supporting each other. Dirk’s unwavering support and deep love for Carol helped make the impossible possible. And with his comic relief and lightheartedness, he brought laughter and joy to Carol’s heart and to others who met him.

Dirk was the creative force behind Nicetys, the gourmet kitchenware store that Carol and Dirk opened in beautiful downtown Oakville. He worked tirelessly to make their dream come true. He jumped in to do marketing, promotion, and help with buying - he enjoyed travelling and meeting with people at the tradeshows. Nicetys is unique – it’s a place for members of the community to shop, meet, chat, and get to know each other. The store has been and will continue to be an extension of Dirk – a place that is welcoming to all in the community. Whether he was cleaning the sidewalks or chatting with a passerby, Dirk was always the first to offer help whenever needed.

Dirk was an intensely loyal and honest man. His friendships have lasted his lasted a lifetime and counts so many as very close friends from childhood. He once painted a picture of Vincent van Gogh's “The Good Samaritan” (1890), interpreting the parable from Luke 10:33. This embodied who Dirk was – a good Samaritan – and how he lived his life, giving to others.

A celebration of Dirk’s life will be held in the future when allowed.

Dirk was a huge animal lover and was especially fond of his beloved cat, Logan, his sweet bunny, Mindy, and cherished cat, Woody. Memorial donations in memory of Dirk can be made to the Oakville Humane Society (https://omhs.ca/).

Please feel free to share a story of Dirk’s big heart, or leave a message using the "Guestbook" feature of this website.

My condolences to Carol and Gerti. I've known Dirk my entire life. He's like a brother to me. I have very fond memories of us growing up together. We' lived in the same neighborhood and even went to school together. I'll always remember one year during Halloween that we both dressed up as women (I can't remember our names we have each other) and had a hoot going around dressed up as women while collecting candies. I'll miss my brother immensely but at least I have my cherished memories. I'll never forget you my brother. Heaven gained an angel. Rest in peace. 🙏🏽

My condolences to Carol and Gurti. Dirk was my brother from a different mother. I've known Dirk since JK and through high school. Its extremely hard for me to write this as I fight back the tears. I've always said if there was 1 person who always had my back and was there when I needed him it was Dirk. I'm so sad that I wasn't there for you when I could have been. We've loved and fought like brothers. I at least have many great memories to remember. Our Montreal trip with Wayne and Andre we were too young to go to the bars back then so we went to Montreal because the age limit was 18 and if I remember correctly I still had to sneak in because I was still 17 that was a great New Year's. The all ages club days of Changes, astralights, till we were of age to go to Richard's, NRG, RPM, the list goes on. The trips to Mexico, Cayman, Hawaii with Frank. You being part of my bridal party. You were always there for me ... my promise to you is I will always be here for your mom and Carol ( Bunny ).
I will never forget you my brother.
