In Celebration of

Dianne Louise Hope

July 15, 1958 -  February 8, 2022

Passed away on February 8th at home in Mississauga. Dianne was born on July 15, 1958 in Antigua and was a proud West Indian; she was deeply connected to the island for her whole life. Receiving the second-highest marks in her country as a teenager, she received a scholarship to the University of the West Indies in Barbados where she studied Biology. She then travelled to Canada to pursue her Master’s degree at the University of Guelph, where she met the love of her life, David. Canada became her second home, where her beloved children Kofi and Melika were born. Frequent visits home to Antigua kept her connected to her dear siblings, Brenda and Dave, and her parents James and Rose Carrott.

Following family tradition, she became a schoolteacher, impacting the lives of countless students throughout her career. Always passionate about her spirituality, as well as her values of inclusion and equity, she was deeply involved with the United Church and studied and facilitated workshops on intercultural ministry throughout her retirement. She enjoyed close relationships with her children’s partners, Lisa and Rohit, and the great joy of her retirement years was being a dedicated grandmother to Samira Rose, with whom she shared a truly special bond.

Dianne was a true extrovert; a social butterfly who delighted in laughter, relationships, and always welcomed new people into her life and made them feel recognized. The support we have received from friends and family throughout the globe since her passing are a testament to this. Our family remains inspired and connected by her memory and the values she inspired in us all. In some of her final words to her children, she said to “go gently through life, putting love and your Creator above all else. Nothing means more than that”. Cremation has taken place.

A public celebration of life will be held at Erin Mills United Church (3010 the Collegeway Mississauga, Ontario) on Saturday, May 28, 2022, at 2 pm with visitation beginning at 1 pm. For those who wish to participate virtually a Livestream link is available below.

If desired, donations may be made to Women’s Health in Women’s Hands (www.whiwh.com).

DEAR DAVE AND FAMILY, I AM SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT DIANNE'S PASSING. YOUR COMPANY ON THE CRUISE WAS A HIGHLIGHT FOR SARAH AND I. WE HAD SUCH FUN WITH OUR GROUP ON THAT TRIP. IT WILL ALWAYS BE ONE FOR ME TO PONDER AS VERY SPECIAL, MADE SPECIAL BY EACH OF YOU.
YOU HAVE LOST A WONDERFUL WIFE AND FRIEND. I KNEW BY YOUR INTERACTIONS WITH EACH OTHER HOW MUCH YOU CARED FOR EACH OTHER. DAVID, YOUR MEMORIES ARE A GIFT YOU WILL ALWAYS CHERISH.
I WOULD APPRECIATE KNOWING WHEN YOU ARE PLANNING A FUNERAL CELEBRATION, AS I WOULD TO ATTEND IF IT IS POSSIBLE
PLEASE TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF. SOMEONE TOLD AFTER MY HUSBAND DIED TO BE GOOD TO MYSELF. THOSE WERE WISE WORDS AS I CONTINUE MY JOURNEY IN LIFE.

My thoughts are with all of you. I have lit a candle in the sanctuary of the church where Dianne gave so much of her heart and was cherished.

She will be missed.

My condolences to your family. Although I didn’t know her well, I remember Dianne as a friendly, caring person who supported me in my early days at Lisgar Middle School. Staff and students loved and admired her and she was such a champion for student equity. I Will remember her fondly.
