Diana passed away on January 31, 2021. She is the beloved daughter of the late Bronislaw Spurgiasz (d. 2015) and Josephine Spurgiasz. She is the much adored mother to Hayley Kopp and Heidi Kopp, sister to Ed Spurgiasz and the late Aileen Dabski (d.2017), sister-in-law to Lois and aunt to Katie Spurgiasz. Also left to mourn are her good friend and father of her children, Helmut Kopp, her partner Peter Regina and a multitude of cousins and friends.
Diana was a dynamic individual. She held esteemed positions at various companies throughout her career and when diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour, was a Director, Resource Management, Strategic Portfolio Office at Scotiabank. She diligently made the very long commute from Burlington to Don Mills each day and we marvelled at her energy. She carried that energy into her life outside work. Diana loved to entertain and the many parties that she and Helmut had in Mississauga were renowned for their food, music and general conviviality. Diana loved every holiday and her house and table looked magazine worthy. Guests were greeted joyfully for any occasion. Family came first with her and we spent countless birthdays and holidays together over the years. We can’t imagine Christmas without her special sparkle and joie de vivre. She had a close knit community of friends who provided loving support in her life and in her last months.
Diana was an optimist and a fighter and throughout her chemo and radiation treatments, she always said she had a ‘great day’. During those treatments she continued to work from home, attend meetings and finish her last big project. We were all amazed at her tenacity and her determination to carry on with her work and leave nothing undone. In the last months, we watched helplessly as she gradually lost her motor functions while her brain remained sharp. Throughout her long decline, she remained thoughtful and considerate, greeting everyone by name and thanking them for coming to visit. Her composure and dignity gave us all strength for the journey.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Carpenter Hospice in Burlington where Diana spent the last few months of her life:
