In Celebration of

Diana Kopp (nee Spurgiasz)

March 28, 1963 -  January 31, 2021

Born March 28, 1963, passed away January 31, 2021

Diana passed away on January 31, 2021. She is the beloved daughter of the late Bronislaw Spurgiasz (d. 2015) and Josephine Spurgiasz. She is the much adored mother to Hayley Kopp and Heidi Kopp, sister to Ed Spurgiasz and the late Aileen Dabski (d.2017), sister-in-law to Lois and aunt to Katie Spurgiasz. Also left to mourn are her good friend and father of her children, Helmut Kopp, her partner Peter Regina and a multitude of cousins and friends.

Diana was a dynamic individual. She held esteemed positions at various companies throughout her career and when diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour, was a Director, Resource Management, Strategic Portfolio Office at Scotiabank. She diligently made the very long commute from Burlington to Don Mills each day and we marvelled at her energy. She carried that energy into her life outside work. Diana loved to entertain and the many parties that she and Helmut had in Mississauga were renowned for their food, music and general conviviality. Diana loved every holiday and her house and table looked magazine worthy. Guests were greeted joyfully for any occasion. Family came first with her and we spent countless birthdays and holidays together over the years. We can’t imagine Christmas without her special sparkle and joie de vivre. She had a close knit community of friends who provided loving support in her life and in her last months.

Diana was an optimist and a fighter and throughout her chemo and radiation treatments, she always said she had a ‘great day’. During those treatments she continued to work from home, attend meetings and finish her last big project. We were all amazed at her tenacity and her determination to carry on with her work and leave nothing undone. In the last months, we watched helplessly as she gradually lost her motor functions while her brain remained sharp. Throughout her long decline, she remained thoughtful and considerate, greeting everyone by name and thanking them for coming to visit. Her composure and dignity gave us all strength for the journey.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Carpenter Hospice in Burlington where Diana spent the last few months of her life:

You were such an inspiration to many. I will miss our daily coffees and time together at the harvest table at work.
You will live in my heart forever!

Really saddened to hear of Diana's passing. I will always remember her smile, her positivity and her energy. We worked at Symcor a number of years ago and she always brought this laughter to all our meetings so she made work not seem too much like work at all! Her warmth was always something I remembered from our Symcor days.
It was this warmth that saved me a few years ago when she helped me get my current position at Scotiabank. Diana made the extra effort to get me the interviews so I could get this role that I am enjoying tremendously now. I really thank her for that. We worked together as part of a great team and we all miss her at Scotia. God bless you Diana!

You did a wonderful job raising you beautiful daughters Hayley and Heidi They will truly miss you daily I'm sure for quite sometime as their hearts try to mend . In time I understand that their hearts will always miss you but we/you learn to cope and girls don't be afraid to reach out for help to heal.

I am deeply saddened to hear about Diana. She worked hard and was always willing to listen and help people. She will be remembered by all her Scotiabank friends. My deepest sympathy to her family whom she spoke of with love.
