In Celebration of

Dennis Jack Schettler

September 14, 1941 -  May 5, 2023

Passed at Sunnybrook Hospital where he had fought valiantly and was beloved by the doctors and staff alike.

Married for 58 wonderful years to Joan Schettler (maiden name Scott) whom he met at St. John’s High school in 1957. They had their first date where he drove her home after a school basketball game and dance.

Dennis came to Toronto from Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1963 to pursue his career as an actuary and will be fondly remembered by many colleagues and friends.

On Bella lake, his most favourite place, he was a steward of the lake and will be dearly missed by everyone who spent magical summers together. Dennis could often be seen fishing from his tin boat, enjoying a cigar or on the dock giving his granddaughters lessons in becoming anglers themselves.

A celebration of life will be held at Humber Valley united Church, 76 Anglessey Blvd Etobicoke on Wednesday May 17th at 2:00 P.M.

Donations to Canadian Cancer Society.

Dennis was one of the finest individuals I've ever had the pleasure to know. His honesty, integrity, north Winnipeg down to earth humor and his care and respect for others made him a very special friend in good times and bad. I still remember the day Dennis finished his last actuarial exam. So many friends came to celebrate with him him that the streets around his home (and our driveway several blocks away) were filled with the cars of those came to congratulate him. Linda and I will miss his always positive outlook on life. Our hearts go out to Joan and their children and grandchildren. Rest in piece old friend.

Dear Joan and Family. I was very saddened by the news of Dennis' passing and wish to extend to you my deepest sympathies. Unfortunately, I will actually be attending a memorial service in Edmonton, Alta on May 16 for a very very dear school friend and will not be in Toronto on either May 16 or 17. I am so sorry to be missing Dennis' memorial service, but again send you my deepest sympathies.

So sorry to hear of our neighbors passing. Got to meet Dennis years ago through the hockey
world as he loved to watch his son play. A very good person who always said hello and was
a pleasure to have as a neighbor. He will be missed.
Our condolences to the entire Schettler family
